Coding a Columbus

Featured Replies

I've had a Columbus fitted to my Mk2 Octavia VRS (it had a MFD2 previously) and I love it's functionality. 2 things that I hate are that firstly, the nav directions no longer appear on the maxidot and secondly, it sounds dreadful.

I know that the first issue is just a case of coding using VCDS (though the MFD2 did communicate with the maxidot), but I have a recollection that the Columbus could be coded in terms of sound too. It came out of a Superb I believe (3TO is part of the serial number) so I wonder if there is a setting that needs to be changed, or can be changed, to make the sound more suitable for the Octavia. I can't believe it's as bad as it is currently!

Can you explain to the uninitiated what BAP protocol is please!

It's a 'language' the different systems use to communicate with each other. If they are speaking different 'languages' without an interpreter, they won't be able to understand each other.

Hell, that's like me when I try to understand how the VCDS software works! Many thanks for your help. Now to find someone near Gloucester who has the requisite cables to help me make the required changes...

I'm occasionally in Gloucester and have cable. Otherwise I'm just north of Hereford if that helps.

That would be fantastic KB! I would love to get the cable myself but can't really justify the cost. Would it be possible to PM you to find a convenient time to pop over?

Yes. Feel free to drop me a PM.
