My Dyno

Featured Replies

In keeping with my belief that figures are irrelevant, below is my dyno from when I was Jabbad last week. Love those curves! :D

Only mods are full decat and a Forge DV

That's right, let's get that message over to people and get away from a figure-fixation. Well, BHP anyway !

I've had a look at my graph again, and this does show how you (well, Mike at Jabba) can set the car up differently depending on what you want.

- Peak torque on mine ('couple' for the uninitiated) is pretty much flat from 2900-4700rpm whereas your sustained torque peak kicks in at 3700 to just under 5000rpm.

- The flipside is that your power continues to build progressively above 4500 whereas mine has flattened off at 4700rpm, even though peak power is further up the rev range, it gets there 'slower' !

Mine is like that because that is what I asked Mike for, based on how I drive and where I drive. I noticed that on motorways I sit with cruise on at 3k rpm and very rarely deviate from that. Once onto single carriageway A roads, I use the gears so am usually above 4k rpm, very rarely going below 3.5k. Also, when on track I am lways above 4k. Hence my map is like it is. :D

Numbers were pretty impressive as well ;)

:D

I'm going to guess that you aren't letting us see any figures, Jon, because the car was running on 3-star last Tuesday, with one coil pack down etc etc. Alternatively it could be because you have only told your insurers that you have had the car tuned to give another 5%... rolleyes.gif

But I haven't increased the capacity, so no worries there Denis :D

I'm trying to get across that the figures aren't the important bit, yes I could have had more power but at the expense of driveability. The actual lines are the important bit, well the area under them anyway.

I agree 100% with this.

Another guide to how well matched an ECU remap is, is MPG.

MPG has been totally unaffected as well over the last 6500m and 3 months. (Calculated manually as well as form the trip computer).

Of the 5 cars I've had ECU changes on, the only other car that stayed the same or improved the MPG was my Impreza with the Ecutek replacement ECU. This DROVE really well in the flesh, rather than just boasting the best BHP improvements.

My MPG has been affected quite drastically. I now get approx 30-40 more miles to the tank - even when booting it everywhere........

Jon, just teasing as per normal - as you well know. I agree about the area under the curves - pulling power is what turns me on too! redface.gif

I'm guessing there's another reason - to be revealed when some more mods have been completed.

What mods? ;)

Howabout fitting a steam engine? Instead of a DV, you'd have a jolly little whistle...

Dave,

Could this be after you have fitted the CAI as it should improve efficiency along with the Decat and remap? I have one on order so interested to know its affect on perf/fuel/sound now you've had it a few weeks.

Denis, it's no good talking to Jon about pulling. ;)

Des, you may wish to rethink that remark in the light of Jon's recent trip to the Ring with Amanda!
