I had the turbo in my 2003 110TDI replaced with a new VAG one about 4 months ago after the original blew up (120k miles).

Now i have noticed there is a noise from it between gears. Can't hear it from inside, only when my wife drives off in it usually low rev gear change from first to second. Its a whirring sound and happens when you would expect a dump valve noise on a petrol turbo to happen.

i have heard similar noise on other cars before (TDIs), but always thought it sounded like someone had modded it.

P.s. Mine has had a decat for about 18 months. the noise may have been there before the old turbo blew, but i don't recall it.

just concerned its serious.

Well the noise of the turbo gets louder when there is a hole in the exhaust so perhaps it's the decat letting the sound through.
