Advice on new battery please

Featured Replies

I have a 2006 2lt PD140 Octavia and my 61/2 year old battery is getting a little old and weak.

I have checked my current battery and it is a VARTA 61AH size 170mm wide, 235mm long and 195mm high.

When checking various battery sites and inputting either my Reg or car details they all recommend a battery ID of 096 which is 70, 72 or 74 AH and size 175mm wide, 279mm long and either 175mm or 195m high.

Having measured the battery container in my car I could not fit a battery 279mm long as the container is too small.

Can any tech advise why I seem to have a non standard battery and where I might find a suitable replacement which would fit in my battery holder.

Thanks

Many on here have fitted the 096 Bosch S4 from Eurocarparts using discount code Brisk25.

It's a 74ah I believe.

I have seen this but the size is 278mm long and that will not fit into the battery housing on my car without butchering the holder

That's strange ive just read another thread further down about battery's and this one was fitted.

I have a 096 Bosch battery on my PD140 Octavia and it fits perfectly, the original factory fit battery was noticeably smaller however.

Got the S5 096 Bosch in mine, had no issues fitting it.

Something the OP may not aware of, but the battery box isn't one solid piece of plastic, its four separate pieces; two halves, plus a base and a lid, which clip together. The allows the lid and sides to be removed while the new battery is clamped in place. The sides of the box can then be slid back down and clipped around the battery with it in situ. A 096 battery that might look fractionally too large at first sight should actually fit ok.

Maybe not the question asked, but I have an Odessey AGM battery in the bike - it gets to stand around a bit nowadays. It whirls over a 1000cc Vtwin nice and smartly.

The technology is claimed to deliver more Cold Cranking Amps per unit size, so you could even go for a smaller battery if you are feeling trusting. They also hold their charge for months and are guaranteed for up to 8 years, don't leak or gas. Originally developed for tanks so very rugged.

Obviously this is not is not going to be bargain basement jobbie, but 'tinternet can deliver prices which won't stop the heart.

I To fitted oddessy battery on bmw 1150cc twin much better cranking power especially in cold weather not cheap got mine from a supplier in fylde road Preston at the right money.
