1.9 SDI W reg struggles going up hills or is it me

Featured Replies

There is only the one fuel pump on the SDI which pulls the fuel up from the tank and then sends it to the injectors. The TDIs have individual pumps on each injector.

Lofty70 I like your approach on it

  • Raise it with trading standards who will give you a ref but refer you to the dealer initially, write to the dealer mentioning you've notified trading standards of the issue and include the ref. statin

So got the car back its pull a bit better but there still that engine braking when the clutch is pressed. Went to Vw wonderful tech help still found its the 3 error codes which are on the same bit of loom one of them he pointed out being the fuel pump solenoid, Which is where most of the noise is coming from. asked for a refund didn't happen I got really stressed i currently have the car :(.

Raise it with trading standards who will give you a ref but refer you to the dealer initially, write to the dealer mentioning you've notified trading standards of the issue and include the ref. stating you are rejecting the car under the sale of goods act stating the various steps that you've been through with him and other garages to resolve the issue but that you have given him every reasonable opportunity to fix the car and as he's been unable to do so you require a refund. Give him 7 working days to respond and send it by recorded delivery. Also if you paid *any* part of the amount by credit or debit card contact the bank/cc company and notify them of the issue as they are jointly liable, they'll contact him as well. The more times he hears from people he doesn't want to deal with the quicker you are likely to get a refund.

He was saying that these cars need to be driven hard and are designed to be rev'ed. He said about bring it in Monday and we will get one of the mechanic to drive it and show you its okay. i did a 0-60 test 1st gear pulling out of a junction taking each gear to 4,000 rpm took 22 seconds i mentioned that he said its never what they say it is in the book. On flat road its drivable but on hills its not.

I think to save the hassle of going down small claims etc taking months when I need a car. I'm gonna look at getting a new car on finance

I have been driving a lot in mine lately (about 500 miles in the last week) and I can say it does not need to be revved.

The fuel pump solenoid would make sense.

The worry is that it's the injector pump. These are complicated things, its the pump that squirts the fuel into the cylinders. It is the thing with 4 pipes coming out of it going to each injector.

It sounds like you are having a lot of hassle though.

If you can take it back and get your money back perhaps you should, and get trading standards involved if you need to. At least find out what the complaints procedure is so you sound like you know what you are talking about.

The other option would be to take it to a decent garage, perhaps a Bosch approved centre, or the Skoda dealer, I know my local dealer is quite helpful.

Thank you Dunkuk, I had vw/skoda look at it. Told the dealer that and he said he used to work for them and they rip people off, well they did diagnostics for free, So dont think they ripped me off. And went on about I should gone back to him every time and not halfords or vw. Well He never rang me, I had to all ways call for updates.

Going down small claims court don't think its worth it as it would cost a lot of money and take forever.

Wouldnt it have been cheaper to just bolt another engine in the darn thing? Sounds to me like its been messed about with to the point that you won't ever have full faith in it even if its fixed due to the time its been driven ill and the strain this might have put on other parts of the engine. Whats an engine, 300-350 quid?

Can't see it being a brake issue as a long drive would leave them stinking like mad. I adjusted my handbrake up a smidge too far for the MOT. Could only actually notice the drag just as you rolled to a standstill on the flat but they were very not and stank after after just a few miles.

Before throwing extra money at another motor I would take it to a VW specialist. APS at Brackley seem to have a good reputation. I would recommend DG Motors at Wellingborough or MJP at Kettering or Unit 18 at Milton Keynes but all are a bit further than you may wish to go. I have had good service from all 3.

I appropriate all your helps guys but I think I may just PX or sell it advising of this fault, the car caused me so much grief and stress, makes me feel depressed driving the thing. I would rather get rid of it. I know the brakes need doing all round as well. :(

This was the ad on ebay. Didnt buy through ebay though.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Skoda-Fabia-1-9-SDi-W-reg-DIESEL-5-door-95k-miles-70-mpg-Cheap-VW-engine-/281029397856?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item416ea84d60&_uhb=1

So if anyone interested in it, got mot and nearly full 6 months tax, depending on price offered I may get it refuned.

Well, we certainly know who not to buy a car from now.

Although I like my fabia, I was a bit shocked to see when looking on autotrader recently I could have probably got a Toyota corolla for not much more, and a fiesta with a more modern diesel engine for less! Hindsight is 20/20 though.

Fabias do hold value quite well

I did notice fabias going around £1000 on 51 plate with over 100,000 miles, that's why I got the one above. Oh well will put it on gumtree for £550 inc tax, I am pretty sure its the fuel pump, if I had the money I would like to work on it myself and fix the issue.
