Wiper motors stop and go

Featured Replies

Hi,

I would just like to ask a question regarding the front wipers, if you have them set in position 1 [slow] and you first switch them on they work fine and when you drive along they work perfectly but as soon as you stop anywhere they stop and the second you go they go and so on, so is this a feature or a problem?

If you have the wipers set in position 2 [fast] they work fine and when driving also but if you stop anywhere they just slow down a bit and as soon as you go again they work at fast speed again and do this every time you stop, do you think this is ok or not?

The car is brand new and I have had it 1 month and it has only done 700 miles.

Thanks for any help.

Ps Cant find any info in the book and still getting to grips with the new car.

Mine does it too.

Thanks for letting me no, so it must be a feature. I suppose if it was an issue the wipers would be stopping at all different times.

It is indeed a feature, although not the best thought out. Would be better if they cleared the windscreen the moment you started moving, that way the windscreen would be clear. If I wanted intermittent I would select intermittent, not a higher speed.

yeh its a VW Group feature, my 2007 VW Caddy had the same.

Thanks to everyone for letting me know.

I understand the theory as to why it does it and definitely see the benefit (especially when you wipers are on the way out and squeaky in anything less than a downpour), but agree that the actual implementation of it could be better - as dwsoton has already mentioned swiping as soon as you pull off.

Deffo a feature to step down one speed when you come to a halt. SWMBO's BMW does it too.
