vibration at 2200-2400 RPM after fitting 3'' downpipe

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I recently fitted a 3'' downpipe. It is nowhere near fowling on any heatshields or power steering pipework etc. I have a yellow powerflex dogbone mount fitted so there was a good bit of vibration in the cabin before.

Now though, when @ ~ 2300 RPM there is a lot of vibration. It doesn't matter what load is on the engine. If I hold it at 2300 it vibrates, if I pass it accelerating or decelerating it vibrates. very annoying as in 5th, 2300 RPM = about 85kmh so twisty roads are becoming a chore.

Best way I can describe the vibration is the same as if you were in too high a gear for your speed only at a higher frequency. (hope that makes sense).

Just wondering why the decat would have caused this? The powerflex mount was fine until now, but it's really an PITA now. makes my car feel very agricultural.

Hope someone can shed some light on this.

Thanks

Michael

You haven't knocked rest of exhaust out of alignment as they can be a real pain to get to sit right or mine was

I realligned it so that the tip sat right in the cutout of bumper, it was drooping to one side before. it's doesn't sound like it's that far back to me, it's quite a deep vibration. And feels like it's coming through the engine mounts. Worst when cold.

Are the centre exhaust mounts ok ? When I fitted my d/p under load it caught the heat shield on top of the power steering rack . It sounds to me like something may not be tight underneath giving you the vibration at certain revs
