HELP with tow bar install on oem wiring kit needed 2011 vrs tdi estate

Featured Replies

Ok so the new octavia VRS estate tdi has arrived and managed to get hold of an oem westfalia removable tow bar 2nd hand nearly new for a very good price which was a good start :)

Then as per the link here

http://octavia-vrs.com/cms/content/towbar-install

Went on the look for the oem wiring loom kit as it does not have factory prep

Skoda wiring kit EEA 600 101 EL4A which I managed to find new for sensible money

So armed with what I thought was everything to install on the car carried out the install and only after completing the fuse box wiring changes and focusing on the control box found mine does not have the connectors shown in the supplied oem instructions of the wiring kit or the online guide (same as oem instructions)

in the picture its the blue plug the oem woring kit uses but on my control module its completly different and does not have this - I will try to upload a picture

Anyway there must have been a revised or updated oem loom which I missed :( anyone able to confirm a solution be that splicing into wires and making my own extra section of loom or a bolt on loom which I will just need to cut and join to current ones

Thanks in advance all,

Due to trailer a project car to the rr saturday so need to get it sorted asap

Correct part number was ZGB3T2055204 and 3c0055204B

So question is can my current kit be tweaked or is it a non starter and correct year loom?

Just dont have time to work it out myself and need resolving for the weekend

Ok so reviewed the wiring changes and not worth the pain and not 100% sure it will work so due to time restraints going to sell the fully working oem kit that WILL DEF not work on 2008 to current

And buy the kit for my car

Will advertise it now and will box it back up this week

Hi DG

Don't know if you have it sorted yet but just fit one of these ?

Thanks for the link, I wanted to wire the electric into the can-bus to fully use the associated features - alarm for trailer / TSP / buzzer tones etc so initially avoided this

Trailer the race car and other project cars around quite a bit (including europe) hence going for the oem stuff to start

Thanks again

That was your problem

Fitting guide shows older CECM

where your car has a PQ35 BCM

Yep :(

Note to self, check fully the details before spending money on oem parts that cannot be returened LOL

Managed to remove the 1st tow wiring kit :D and fit the replacement one and additional wiring kit to go with it

Oh the joys - about 15hrs later I have a fully fitted oem loom lol - not bitter about fitting the wrong one at all :D :D

Just need to do the coding but after connecting the vag.com cable it did a firware upgrade and then had another tab showing trailer options which seemed nice

Just need to work out what coding / how to use vag.com LOL

Do love the fact the whole kit is invisable when not in use and have all the good bits via the canbus which I really wanted - almost wired in my own upgrade for the split charging but dont need it for the trailer and figured if I turn to the dark side of a caravan could always do it at a later stage

Instructions are not the greatest and not the same as the early kit which has the website link - most of the stuff not covered was the breaking into the reverse wire in the fuse cluster to give a live feed to the controller in the boot and also the switched and perm live via relay for the new extra loom section. I retro fitted the switch live through a spare on the fuse box and took the perm from the main feed also with inline fuse rather than the extra joy of through the bulkhead

  • 1 month later...

Just had one of these fitted to my 2012 vrs. Total cost was 475 which included the westfalia detachable towbar, full aftermarket loom kit and all the coding for the reversing sensors, bolero and stability control.

Not cheap but was better than me hacking the car to pieces and doing it myself.
