Skoda Sat-Nav MFD

Featured Replies

Wow, thats really cool. I'm totally on the look out for another one of those and a plug and play loom.

Yeah sorry about the slight misdirection there, Radio is fitted but no CD player.

I know this as when you order a car with sat nav you also have to add

If you had ordered with SatNav they (Skoda) recommend getting the changer for this reason :D

I was in a friends audi monday, and he had their sat nav in it. Very nice. it used a DVD drive behind the screen for the maps etc.... Just wondering, if this is cd based, doesnt that mean it will be very basic compared to a dvd version?

Does anyone know if an audi unit can be persuaded to fit in a skoda?

Have just browsed around the site as I am very tempted to get this as it would be very handy for work. I bought a standard VRS as I thought most of the added extra's were either pointless or too expensive. I wouldnt want to lose the ability of listening to cd's.

Although my dealer said it would be easy to have the changer retro fitted, he said it would still cost

Does the satnav really need 4.8 GBytes of data? I have a Palm Tungsten T5 with TomTom and the UK map is about 106 MBytes. France is the largest European map at about 240 MBytes. Do these standalone satnavs copy from the DVD into flash memory, or work from the DVD?

I beleive you can.... the "plug and play" loom comes with a Gala switch which goes to your glovebox.... believe idea is to press this then sat nav thinks car isnt travelling and these devices can be used..... just ask on the site though tom will help you (sometimes slow to reply)

Cool thanks for your reply. I shall ask on the site and see what they say.

I guess your right. I expect that the DVD he has covers the whole of europe. I would only be interested in the uk maps anyway. I did like the optional sd memory card slots he had, Maps could be stored on those instead of running of the disk.

I am thinking more and more, that getting the skoda and fitting it myself would be the best option. I was thinking of getting something like tom tom etc... , but I like the idea of everything looking like it should be there and not having things stuck all over the place. Looks like I will have to save some pennies. Cd changer will be required too.

Have finally got me an MFD! :D

Really easy to install with the plug and play wiring - only difficulty was routing the wiring. Had a little bit of difficulty getting the first fix satellite fix but a bit of driving about seems to have cured that.

Nice to have an uncluttered dash again!

 Great to hear!

looks great!

im looking at getting a similar audi one for my A4, aparently a DVD based system. bit more expensive mind you so im still not sure

Just a caution about DVD systems - we use a VDO Dayton DVD system on our ambulances - these are linked to our data systems so normally program automatically but if you want to put an address in manually it takes ages - seems to take the data straight off the DVD rather than loading some information into memory. The MFD on the other hand seems to load the CD contents into memory when the CD is inserted so route planning is like lightning.

Don't know if the Audi system works like that.

Got my system from bodycarstyling on eBay - unit shipped from Poland so takes a bit of time to arrive but at

thanks for the info mate  tbh im not sure how and how well it works, will look into it

When I was in my friends Audi the other day it didnt seem to take to long to put a route in. There was no noticible pausing so guessing it may be better on the Audi's then in the ambulance. Also he turned it to french and the lady had a very sexy voice. (no idea what she was saying but it sounded cool)

69 ;) :naughty:

what kind of audi was it? do you know what version of sat nav it had?

He has an Audi a3 1.9 TDI. I think it was the standard Audi sat nav for this car. Believe he had it fitted as an option when buying it. he's also got the adapters in the boot so he can plug a playstation into it if he wants. The only other thing I remember is that the screen tilts down so you can access the dvd drive and also behind the screen are two memory card slots, which he hasnt used yet.

sounds like a good peice of kit, is making me tempted ;)

wont go for the tv tuner tho, to expensive. dont know what other functions it has
