Taking Delivery of New Superb-What should I check?

Featured Replies

Hi All - I will take delivery of my new Superb 140 Elegance in a couple of weeks - can anyone give me any advice on what I should check (besides the obvious) when I take delivery. Things I am thinking off are along the lines of:

1. Latest Firmware version for Columbus

2. Latest Maps for Columbus - should i get the DVD as well

3. Servicing interval set at fixed or variable - which is better for a retired guy who will probably do less than 10K miles year and most of that will be long journeys.

4. I am having towbar fitted by the dealer, anything I should check on the electrics?

Anyone any additional thoughts?

Thanks

Every aspect of the towbar electrics, if you're towing a caravan, eg fridge supply at battery charge supply. Don't wait for the camping season to check it!

Also, check the twindoor works in hatch mode OK; a sensitive switch location can cause problems.

I would hope that the factory is loading v9 maps by now so you could check that by pressing the Setup button for about 10 seconds until and small menu pops up, then select Version Info and v9 maps are identified as '7918'.

Ask your dealer what their policy is about updating the firmware and maps. Do they automatically check when doing a service? Will they advise you when updates are available as services are a long time apart. You are unlikely to get a DVD as they buy it and use it for all their cars.

Like you I'm retired and only use my Superb for pleasure so I opted for fixed 12-month services as I don't believe any vehicle should go longer without one.

Finally, check rear NS door for the umbrella.

Happy motoring ;o)

If you've bought a spare wheel, check you have the little tool to remove the wheel nut caps. solid topped caps need a device looking a little like giant plastic tweezers, whist the caps with a hole in them (do any models come with these?) need with a little wire device.

Make sure that the puddle lights in the mirrors come on when opening the door - if they don't it's an indication that the car is still in "transport mode," which should be dealt with at PDI. Mine wasn't! :)

Check everything!! There are no obvious thing when taking delivery of a car, and it is very easy to get cought up and excited, resulting in actually checking very little.

Don't take anything for granted. I have found panel fit to be important, the cars get knocked around from factory to customer.

TAKE SOME MONEY WITH YOU BECAUSE YOU WILL NEED TO GO STRAIGHT INTO THE PARTS DEPARTMENT TO BUY MATTS!!

Many thanks to all for the advice-very helpful. I'll summarize all the comments and print the list as I am sure that I'll be somewhat distracted/excited when I actually take delivery! The car will now be delivered in early January and I'll let you know how I get on.

have them check the transport blocks are removed from suspension - mine were not, and these were removed at 1st service, around 18,000 miles after i collected it - couldn't feel any difference before or after mind you...!

I have never bought MATS! If you are buying a premium car like this in the range then insist on it when ordering the car and confirm in an e mail. Then when you pick the car up and no mats, then just wave the e mail in there face. It works wonders......
