Skoda Superb 2.0 TDi SE DSG

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have ordered a new Skoda Superb SE 2.0 TDi 170 CR with DSG gearbox in Steel Grey which will hopefully arrive in the next few weeks. Is there anything I should do or look out for on arrival? Was thinking that I should get wheel alignment professionally checked 1st - is this necessary though in your opinion?

In the meantime I am selling my current car - Alfa Romeo 159 JTDm Lusso. I have posted and advert for this in the cars for sale lounge.

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/237718-alfa-romeo-159-19-jtdm-lusso-2008/

I would, I know plenty of people who've had their wheel alignment come out of the factory wrong.

This is a list I collated from various forums before collecting my Golf.  OK, I know, it's an embarrassingly long list, but I was spending a lot of money!  Before you collect the car, check with the dealer that you can inspect the car indoors if there's any chance of rain, otherwise you won't see any marks on the paintwork etc.  I'm hopefully collecting mine in a month or so and I would really appreciate any Superb specific points from anyone.

If you do find anything wrong, make sure it's noted down and decide whether to reject the car (a really tough decision after a 12 to 52 week wait) or get it in writing that the dealer will rectify it later to your satisfaction.

1   Check all the optional extras

2   Full size spare wheel in boot, tool set and key adapter for locking wheel nuts.

3   Check the condition of all the bodywork, wheels and interior, fog lights for stone chips (if its got cosmetic damage its going to be down to you once you drive away).

4   Marks on wheels from lashing ratchet strap from the transporter lorry. Refurbs on diamond cut alloys can last only six months, so demand a new wheel.

5   Look very carefully for any small dents or chips. Crouch low and look along the sides of the vehicle and all around for anything out of the ordinary. If the car is outside and it has been raining tell the dealer you will be inspecting the car as soon as it is dry as you wouldn't see anything small if wet.

6   Check panel allignment

7   Check the fit of the doors (front especially) up at the top of the window towards the rear.

8   Have a good look at the seats and the fit of all the trim inside.

9   Check the transport blocks have been removed from the suspension springs

10   Headlight settings are on UK setting (i.e. dipped headlights are not always on with ignition)

11   Umbrella in left rear door lining

12   English manuals, make sure they have filled in and stamped the PDI part of the service book.

13   Make sure all other documents are in the vehicle wallet.

14   Radio security code has been inputted and you have the number etc

15   Make sure there are no stray rags/cloths in the engine compartment.

16   Smoking Pack/Non smoking pack (which ever you ordered)

17   Check VIN numbers match between the car and documentation.

18   Make sure you are set up for the service regime you want (Longlife or time & distance), normally a sticker inside a door opening (is it on the drivers door for Skodas?)

19   If there is no top up oil in a little bag in the boot ask for some (maybe just a VW thing).

20   Check the bolt caps have been inserted in the holes on the wheels

21   Drop the windows right down, and then put them back up on auto (don't hold it).  Make sure the windows don't drop when they're about an inch from shut.

22   But dont worry too much about making sure all the electric stuff works (if there is a fault with the car its covered by warranty anyway) just concentrate on the stuff that the retailer can deny responsibility for later.

23  Two keys with remote locking functions, plus plastic key tag - with serial number, for ordering replacement key if necessary.

24  When you get the car home check the tyre pressures (once they have cooled down) - they sometimes leave the factory at 55 psi (set for long term storage)

25   Drive home with enormous smile on your face.

Hope that helps

Lee - are you now booking the day off for when I come to collect mine?!

That's......errr???? Very thorough :S

Don't know about booking the day off, maybe just not organising any test drives, taking any phone calls etc

I will be there and maybe the list will be a bit longer by then??

But that's the what we're here for

Or maybe I'll forget to bring the list with me (like last time) and just sign the paperwork and grab the keys....!

As it is contract hire it wil probably be delivered on the back of a trailer with someone eager that I sign off on it so hey can get home. I had only thought on alignment and wax, though if I see antything not right the chap will have to turn around and take it back. The Alfa isn't sold and is in the best condition yet as I have sorted all the little jobs on it (nearly). It's not going to be an inconvenience to drive it for a wee while longer ;)

That is a big list though. When I collected the Alfa I found that it had left the factory with left hand drive front seats so mis builds do happen. I will go over it with a furtherly and ofcourse check for the brolly :D

1. Check the colour :(

We picked up a new Focus 6 years ago and felt something was wrong.

Eventually it became apparent that the colour was a darker blue. Ford had changed the colour from Jeans Blue(a lightish pastel) and which my wife had wanted, to Ocean Blue (a deep strong blue) but Ford had not told the dealer.

We took the car after full and frank discussion and subsequent compensation.

I took delivery of exactly the same car (inc the colour) mid march..also a company lease car.

Check the rechargeable torch is in the boot..mine wasn't ...but got a replacement...and check with the lease co as what to expect re fuel.Mine came with the fuel light on ...the dealer sent me a cheque for £35 as it should have had a half tank

Car recieved today. Have to say that I am impressed. The steering lets it down a little but tis is the only gripe, needs to be sharper - a bit more direct, but I shall adjust. I have some newbie questions I hope you can help with.

Tyre pressures: on the 17" rims the fuel flap states 2.2 bar. Is this a little low? What do you guys run?

Bolero, does not seem to like .m4a. What formats does this accept?

The digital speedometer is in km/h. Can this be changed to mph?

I didn't do anywhere near enough checks - too busy playing with my new toy :).

I felt the same when I first picked up my Octavia. Try adjusting the front tyre pressures and see if that helps. Try increasing them a few psi at a time.

You can't change the km/h to mph. Because the dials don't have km/h displayed, it must be displayed somewhere in case you go to Europe hence it's on the digital readout.

Set fronts to 2.3 bar and rear to 2.5. Definate improvement however not quite there at the front. Big improvement from rear however but may put this up a notch further. Will put both up 0.1 bar and test.

Noticing a few cockpit rattles. Is this common.

Mine is 2 months old..and since day 1 I've had noise from behind the dash ..slightly more to the passanger side..sounds like a piece of foil or paper resonating while driving..took the pollen filter out in case it was something stuck in there..but no joy

I did take it into the dealer but it was raining and couldn't be heard over the rain on the car..I agreed to take it back in ..hopefuuly it will get worse and be easier to track down.I was thinking of prising the center air vent out to see if I can pin it down

Very annoying

There are some posts re glovebox rattles..which seem to be fixable

good luck

Mine seems like it is in the steering column/behind instrument panel, around that area. Not constant either. Hopefully it will be something easy. I had a rattle coming out of the centre top air vent on my Alfa 159 - took over 2 years to find that it was actually the menu button to the end of my indicator stalk. The sound would resonate out of that air vent! :S

Noticed the same (position) rattle today. It appears to be just to the right of the front left passenger air vent.

Mine rattled around the drivers left knee area. I removed the all the dash screws from around the footwell compartment and re installed them much more firmly. The problem

was sorted. No rattle since.

I take it Skoda dealers are ok to fix rattles under warranty. I think can pinpoint 1 atleast in on the drivers door card. Changed tyre pressures today. 2.3 bar front / 2.7 bar rear. Definate improvement on handling :)

I've got my car for 6 weeks now. I have noticed that same rattle, (very accurate description!) and I'm booked in to the dealers on the 27th. I hope they will manage to find out what it is.

I noticed that it is intermittent, and seems to be affected by the ventilation system settings.

If anyone knows anything more about this noise, please let us know!

Let me know how you get on at the dealer.

If you have maxidot then yes it can be changed, you will need someone with VCDS to do it though.

Close but not quite true, you only need to be able to display both MPH and KPH, both do not need to be displayed at the same time.

If you have maxidot then once the changes have been done with VCDS then the KPH display can be swapped with a (large) MPH display quickly and easily through the maxidot menu.

Please tell me...What is `VCDS`?

Please tell me...What is `VCDS`?

VCDS (<< click it to go to the Ross-Tech website) is basically a software programme and interface ('cable') which will scan the car for fault codes and also allow you make numerous adaptations to the cars software changing the way certain controllers behave, this means that items like alarm chirps, selective door unlocking, lights, etc can all be personalized the way the owner likes. (it does much more than these examples mind)

HTH

Blimey!!!

Thanks for this...a Techie's dream and a Technaphobe's nightmare!

A couple more questions if I might...

Will the Dealer I collect the car from (in a months time hopefully) be able to provide this service? and, will these changes to the car's software have any impact on it's Warranty?

Thank you for your knowledge and your time.

Mike.
