Error codes

Featured Replies

Hi guys im having car trouble yet again on a diffrent motor this time around

i had the car checked at my local garage and he came back with a couple codes

17965 charge press control

p1557 ?

17552 mass air flow

p1144 ?

Im guessing these might explain why the car is running really rough on idle when starting up sometimes and it also hunts alittle but then settles down when its warm after that the car idles fine.

ive started to notice its chucking out some black smoke when trying to accelerate, the car feels like its really bogged and struggling to get the revs up.also on accelerating had the car goes into limp mod and i have to resert the car.

the cars got 177k on the clock and wondering if ive got a major problem on my hands. So now im not sure what to do sell the car or try and get it fixed.

would be greatful for any help

Sounds like stuck turbo vanes causing limp & the 17965 code.

17552 try unplugging the MAF sensor, & if the car runs better you know the MAF is goosed, which is a very common problem. Replace with a genuine VAG MAF only.

If the car has any temperature related problems, rough idle etc, I would change the Coolant Temp Sensor as it's an extremely common failure.

BTW. The Mr Muscle treatment normally cures the stuck turbo vanes. Search the forum for details.

p1144 is also related to MAF faults

p1557 is also related to stuck turbo vanes.

CONCLUSION. I'd say you a stuck turbo vanes & a goosed MAF.

Thanks for quick replys and the links

I forgot to mention i did try the mr muscle just the other day found a very good thread and did notice a change the next day driving it around well at least it seemed a bit more responsive. Have found after doing the clean ive started to see alot more black smoke come out the rear end not sure if this is a good thing or not.

I also had a temp sensor that was all over the place some day it would work other it would drop from 80 to 0 in a second i replaced this when i tried the mr muscle temp sensor now work great. i havent tried to drive it around with out the maf unplugged will try this out tomorrow

Just dont want to throw alot of cash at it if the turbo is going to become more of a problem

So my turbo really seems to be sticking loads now which i never had before i tried to clean it out, going to give it another clean however only a week ago i clean out the egr valve( bit where the breather hose connects to erg, where the flap thing is lol) sorry its not the best info but have no idea what its called anyway when i took the breather hose of i was shocked to see it was caked again after only about a week also seen abit of oil in the breather hose to is this normal ?

i followed the hose down and it seems to lead to the intercooler i removed the drivers side head light just to be sure wanted to see if the pipe had come off again as i did pop off once and had to have the aa out.

Have you tried unplugging the MAF yet?

Have you tried unplugging the MAF yet?

yea tried that after the first cleaned it out much worse when removing MAF

It did show up on the scan as one of the codes trying to get my hands on one to just try out for a couple of hours but struggling to find one
