Hello all.

Changed engine oil on my 02 110bhp octavia. Roughly 4.5 litres came out. Drained a bit off as it looked a very slightly high on the stick but what came out was very dark. Would it need to be changed a few times over a short period to clean out the older oil?

Otherwise very easy to do.

are you new to diesel? this sounds fairly normal-- if the engine has the replaceable element filter with a cooler underneath that will hold quite a bit of old oil which won't drain-- which make the new all the blacker

Not new to diesels but makes sense regarding engine holding a bit of old oil. Drove it onto blocks to get front up then drained oil for initial change.

Do those suction pumps get more out?

Often experienced similar on my petrol engines. I don't tend to use flushing oils so it's not uncommon to initially see darker oil but that tends to blend and fade fairly quickly.

Diesels blacken oil in the space of 5 miles! Completely normal

not -more- than draining, but a pump is usefull to almost empty the filter/cooler housing
