  • To be honest I think I was just unlucky in the kkk turbo lottery. Oil level may not have helped but I don't think it was the cause. Thanks for the offer but after 4 hours this afternoon it lives. IT

  • Secretly your pleased so you can go hybrid fingers crossed for you Cliff

  • It certainly sounds like the issues I had at the Ring' Cliff. When it went it just stalled the engine, though I didn't have any limp mode issues beforehand. No smoke, fault codes or anything, just a c

How much for the goosed one cliff?? It might come in handy for a certain Roomster project ;)

What part's are you needing to swap the turbo's over?My own has gone and I like you have a spare so gonna swap just not sure which bit's I need?

Make me an offer Baz what's the worst that can happen.

See shopping list in post #68

In theory you could just swap dead for new without buying anything except new oil.

But as you are taking it apart you might as well replace all the consumables/ancillaries.

I've got a quote/list of part numbers from my local dealer , drop me a PM if you want it

A burst compressor wheel like that is often a sign of a boost leak in the inlet system causing the turbo to overspeed. Given that you were going uphill (so under fairly high load and therefore with the turbo going at full chat) it would be well worth checking the joints/o rings/pipes and the intercooler too. It only takes a small leak for crippling results. Oil, although critical for the health of the turbo, isn't related to a failure like this unless the engine was running away on its own oil.

A bit of follow up on this thread

It has now been two weeks and the car has performed faultlessly since the turbos were changed.

It has dealt with a 2 hour motorway cruise and Cornish B road blasts admirably.

At present I see no side affects following the turbo explosion - well to the car anyway, my wallet still hasn't recovered.

I also need to clear up that this i thought was turbo related:

Just a noise - i dunno how to describe it - not a whistle - not a grinding noise - not a rattle - yet all 3 of those at the same time.

is actually air-con related.

With the AC button pushed and light off no noise, turn it on and the noise returns.

Lets hope thats a simpler fix than the complete failure i had on the red car.
