skoda door membrane?

Featured Replies

hi all

bought a new door membrane after swapping my window mech the old one was foam and a nightmare to get of the new one is foam and has sticky backing but erm lets say it would stick to anything at all end off not enough to stick loo roll to it let alone this to a door?

does it look like i've been stiffed for an old stock one :(

I just stick the old ones back together with gaffa tape. Not worth losing sleep over. They're mainly about keeping noise and resonances down than anything else, despite the BS that some people will tell you about damp-proofing etc.

Gaffa tape will fix anything. If you can't fix it with gaffa tape, you're probably not using enough gaffa tape. ;)

Nah, there are some noises and resonances that even gaffa tape can't fix. ;)

the speakes sound alot better without them :)

I bought a set of Magnat Dark Power.in the store on the wall they sound great,on my car they sounded rubbis,..until I removed that membrane

but then you run the risk of water and damp getting to the motor and electrics inside the door, and water coming in down through the door and onto the sill, so keep an eye on that. I made a flap over the speaker to allow it to be shielded from the top, but allow air to flow through the door and speaker for better sound.

Water is just as likely to pass the rubber window wipers (which invariably don't do that good a job on these anyway) from the top anyway though Luca. They're not really that beneficial in reality.

Damp IS going to get to the door regardless.

However, the flap protecting the speaker IS a good reason to leave them in place.

was water dripping through the glass and scraper/ seal that dripped into the plug on the window mech causing my interior lihght and my central locking issue so hmmmm there poo lol

still got spanish stlye easy crack wiring too just like a golf or atleast some of them ha

but i love the the VRshed no matter :)

that membrane keeps the water away fom the interior, electric motor is not protected.

2 years since I removed it,no problem at all

And the interior is going to get damp from all the other little VAG/Skoda issues anyway... ;)

silicon it on i did

silicon it on i did

If it IS a foam type, then the fumes from the silicon curing will perish the foam, and turn it to goo. Not recommended.

ok tape and a hair dryer it is :0

Hair dryer or heat gun will often work effectively to rejuvenate the glue. ;) Good call.

Why complicate it ? Duck tape is perfect :)

Around the edges, maybe. Doesn't stop it flapping about in the middle though...

were going for both like double bagging lmao

'ad a few of them...

lol aint that the truth:>the membrane is needed to stop the water coming down out of the scrapers (as they recede with age) and then running down the outside of the door inner and onto the sill rubber, as they shrink this becomes more of a problem, and this is one of the most common recognised ways of water leaking into octavia. So it really is not a good idea to take them out. As said duct tape, will fix, i glugun mine back in always, works a treat, either that or silicone works too.
