tyre sizes for 4x4

Featured Replies

Right been offered some winter tyres for my 4x4 by a mate. Has the standard 205 55 16 on now but what I have been offered are 225 top brand winter tyres.

Found a thread saying they might fit but not sure, any one done this? And anyone know if my wheels are 6 or 7j?

Thanks

The standard ride alloys are 6.5j

Look in the fuel flap and it will list the tyre sizes that are acceptable on your vehicle.

Also you don't really want wider winter tyres, it makes them less effective. Though they will still be better than summer ones.

+ standard check with your insurer disclaimer.

225 will fit, but isn't ideal on a 16" wheel, on a stock car

You'd need 225/50R16 (-1mm diameter)

camskill seem to have stock in your OE size

its preferable for winter tyres to go narrower. I run 15" 6J alloys with 195/65/15's

Thanks for the input guys. Basically can have 4 nearly new 7mm dunlops winter 3d's or just stick with what I have. Never put winter tyres on my cars before but thought if they are cheap enough and fit :). May give them a trial run tomorrow

You will not regret it. I never had any trouble getting going as I was taught how to drive on snow. Where they excel is stopping and turning (especially both at the same time). This is where summer rubber and 4x4 makes no difference :D. Best change to a vehicle I noticed was when SWMBO had the Passat estate (pd130) used to light up the traction control all the time in the wet but when it got sloppy it was on more than off. Fitted set of four continental winters and only saw the traction light twice all winter. They were that good.

So right. Until you drive a car with a set of winters you won't believe the difference.

Sloppy? Should have read SLIPPY :D
