Candy White Touch Up Brush Woes

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Not as daft a question as it sounds: have any of you found a proper match for your candy white Skoda?

Using a genuine touch up pencil (p/n HFA380038) with an expiry date of 04/2013, the repair looks good when applied, but after a week or two acquires a greyish hue. My Octavia is just two years old and I have a few more tiny stone chips I want to do.

I haven't looked into it, but I'm hoping VW's candy white, or possibly Audi's Ibis white might be more of a match than the Skoda version. I was thinking of trying my luck with a VW or Audi version and just putting a "dob" of paint on a door hinge and see how it turns out.

I'd like to hear from any candy white owners on here who've found the perfect match.

Cheers.

If I were you I would look up 'Chip-ex' their kits are of much better quality and match...................;)

Thanks Baker21, I might give Chipex a try. I've just looked at various forum reviews by Chipex users and the results are mixed, but if the paint is a perfect match at least I've got a chance, but I'll still try the door hinge trick first I think.

Personally I have used a few kits that that the car owner has asked us to use and I have found they come with plenty of handy tools to get the job done correctly and we have never heard back from anyone saying the colour isn't a good enough match.

Thanks for the chipex recommendation, will also give it a try.

My concern though with the Skoda product, is it's akin to treacle consistency; just forms a blob over the chip rather than running into it, which looks horrible (even tried gently warming the tube). Had the same issue with the Pacific blue pot also but the Dynamic touch up my lad has for his Fabia works fine :wonder:

Never had a problem with any factory touch up kits.

Was it down to the metal and if so did you prime it and leave the primer to cure properly.

This could be the reason for discoloration with white.
