Central control unit draining battery

Featured Replies

I've seen this problem come up in a couple of topics but no one really got to the bottom of it.

I haven't used the car for a week and the battery is flat. It's a new battery and the alternator is working - there's 14.5V across the battery when the engine is idling, and the battery is charging after jump starting the car.

There seems to be a current drain of about 150mA when the engine is off which goes away when fuse 43 (central control unit) is removed.

So my question is has anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it? Or even where the CCU is?

My son fed some coins into the cassette player so maybe there is a short circuit somewhere...

Any advice would be much appreciated.

The car's a 2003 Skoda Fabia 1.4.

Have you disconnected the live feed to the cassette player and seen if thats it sorted.?

C.convience control unit is under the drivers side of the dash.. not uncommen for them to break although it could also be one of the many convenience systems the convenience control unit feeds that has a short/ resistance fault eg. Cd player.. Elec windows.. interior lights.. heated seats etc.. by removing the fuse for the conv. C.unit u have removed power to all of these.

Next step would be to see if any of the conv. Systems has a fault ie. Not working or always on etc...

Then unplug every conv. System/ motor 1 by one observing the battery voltage/ drain..

Thanks for the advice. It's taken me a while to post back what with Xmas and all.

It looks like it was a short in the radio/cassette player. We had it taken out and checked, turns out our son fed about 20 coins and a penknife in there! Had no idea it was as much as that. But removing them seems to have fixed the problem.

I hope you returned the compliment to him and him and then he won't do it again

Kidding of course :giggle:
