Parking Light Problem with Number Plate Lights

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Has anyone else had this problem and found an easy fix?-

Indicator on 'left' when parked and, front and rear side lights on as should be, same for right. Both work fine ie left works as should and right works as should.

However, I noticed last night that when using the left side facility (passenger side), the number plate lights are on as well- they shouldnt be. They are not on when using the facility for the drivers side.

I also have a 60 Octavia, tested that and no number plate lights, also tested on a 54 Octavia, no issue there either.

So, the issue is number plate lights are on when using the passenger side parking lights, can anyone help or offer any advice?

Cheers in advance!

Simon.

Oh, its a Fabia II 07, 1.2 12v 2 if that makes any difference!?

Best Fix, don't leave the indicators on left or right = Car will start in the morning :giggle:

Parked on a busy main road so, don't leave the indicators on left or right = car smashed in the morning

Fabia mk vRS.

Right parking light on front sidelight, rear sidelight and the 'right hand side of the Number plate' is lit.

When down to the left, front and rear lit & 'left side of number plate' is lit.

Hi George,

To be clearer- engine off, ignition off and parked up.

When indicator stalk indicating right, front and rear right hand sidelights on- as should be. NO number plate lights on, as should be.

However, when stalk indicating left, front and rear left hand sidelights on- as should be. BUT also all number plate lights on, as shouldnt be.

Hope this makes sense!?

There are 2 bulbs above the Rear Number plate.

Parking lights on to the right, right hand number plate bulb will be on.

Parking light to the left, left hand number plate bulb will be on.

Can take a picture if you like. just checked them.

I only ever use the Right hand Parking light.

Sounds weird to me, my understanding of parking lights is that they are just that, the number plate lights shouldnt come on at all and i dont ever remember seeing a car with them on. It just looks like a rear sidelight bulb is out if thats the case?

I've rechecked my fabia and octavia, the octy is fine, the fabia not so.

Not a major issue but just wondered if anyone else had had similiar issues and knew of a fix.

Thanks for image.

Begs the question on mine why both number plates lights are on when on left, but not on when on right!?

I have had 2 Fabia vRS, this is how they should work.

(as far as i am concerned the standard Front Sidelight is too bright as a parking light and confusing to on coming traffic.

The rear is not much better but the number plate half on kind of lets a driver see its not a Cyclist on Motor Bike light.)

Personally i have only left them on while nipping in someplace while parked on unlit roads, as per the Highway Code.

I would never leave them on for a few hours.

I never park up on the road over night.

I see your point, yet my 60 plate Octy doesn't have them come on either way and this is a similar age to your fabia. My Fabia is an 07 so maybe wired differently but still doesn't explain why they only come on when using 'left'.

I've dropped an email to Skoda Uk so see if any joy there as well.

Just a quick update- I had a call from a very nice man at Skoda UK today who confirmed that the number plate lights should NOT be on when using 'parking lights', left or right, across the Fabia range. So, my original assumption was correct and there is something not quite right with my Fabia.

Having tested this on two Octavias (with a 7 year age gap) and the number plate lights NOT coming on either of those, I assume this is accross the entire Skoda, VW etc range.

Just thought I'd let you know if you are interested.

Thats good to know.

There are plenty of Fabia MK 2 vRS owners on here that could maybe be kind enough to try their parking lights and let us know what their car does.

Also 07 Fabia II 1.2 12v 2 owners.

Just checked mine on a Fabia VRS. Right indicator down Right DRL Right rear lamp and right number plate light illuminates. Exact same for the left side but obviously all left side. I wouldn't listen to Skoda uk . I made an inquiry as to whether a Blue tooth handsfree system could be retro fitted to maxi dot and was told not a chance. I bought all the bits fitted it and it works perfectly.

Oh well. All the advice I've had from Skoda over the years has been pretty good but that's just my experience. For a 100 good experiences there will be a 100 bad whatever the company.

None of this of course addresses the clear 'fault' I have-

Regardless of whether number plate lights should or shouldn't be on with the parking lights, they should obviously be the same on both sides, which mine are not.

Maybe someone could advise if they have the same 'fault' as me and if so, how it was resolved?
