Rear Numberplate light/bulb problem

Featured Replies

I was just replacing a rear numberplate bulb ....

Went to push in the new bulb and the holder pushed inside the back of the boot.

Is there an easy way in to push this back into place?

I guess I have to take off the inside of the tailgate cover. If I pull it off, will it just clip back on, or will I have to replace clips etc?

Thanks.

It will just clip back in, if your hands arnt very large you may be able to just pop some of the cover off and wedge your hand up inside. It took me a while to get my cover lined up again but no be fair I was doing it all alone.

Let us know how you get on

The bulb holders on mine were broken and I had to pull the tail gate cover off altogether. It will just pop off and back on, but is a bit of a pain in the arse to get back on. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes swearing though.

All done. Probably easier from behind. Although I think there a clip still off at the top of the boot.

Didn't swear too much either. The number plate illuminates way better with decent LEDs. It doesn't shine too much onto the bumper as they are angled well.

Thanks for the help guys. :)

I had the same problem few minutes ago. My Octavia is a Combi. What's the easier way to remove the inside black cover to reach the bulb's holder?

Thanks in advance

There is no real easy way. The rear cover is just clipped in place but quite tightly. Good pull will do the trick. Pulling outwards and then downwards will remove panel. I have mastic the metal clips in place so they stay there when panel removed. Then refitting you just need to locate the rear panel into the clips and offer up the lower section to the tailgate. Easier with a helper.

About to go do this myself in a few minutes, realised yesterday than both lights are dead. We to try and change them the normal way and found out that both bulb holders are missing :( They are probbably the last owners failed attempt of changing. Fingers crossed that i don't break something.

Well i done it :) Managed to break 1 clip but no matter. I still can't believe that the actual bulb holder is not held in place by anything.

I'm pretty sure they are actually supposed to be replaced by removing the black cover, so that would be the normal way ....

Should be made easier to reach then if you ask me

Mission completed. I only needed to open a corner and put my hand through the opening. I didn't remove the whole cover. I broke just one or two clips. I will glue the bulb holder in place.
