1.6 Cold Start Issue

Featured Replies

Hi all, Typically i stay in the Fabia section but i have been offered a mk1 Octavia 1.6 Estate for £200 (An acquaintance's Father).

They are trying to sell it as "spares or repairs" as it will not start up cold. Story is it was running one day then the next morning it would not start. They called the RAC and all they said was there was a faulty Temp Sensor.

I haven't seen the car yet and from what i have gathered the current owner isnt 'clued up' on DIY car repairs so they're not willing to fix it. (Although I thought the RAC should be able to fix something like that?)

However I myself have never worked on an Octavia, So could someone tell me does the Octavia have 1 Coolant temp sensor fitted to the Thermostat housing like the petrol Fabia's?

Also do all petrol Octavia's use the same Temp Sensor part just like all petrol Fabia's?

Im just looking into possibly how much its going to cost to repair so i can decide whether its worth seeing the car. But that said there could be something else drastically wrong! haha.

thanks

Temp sensor failure is common on VAG cars. Replace with a genuine revised green sensor (£25ish). Not sure where it's located on a 1.6, but on the 1.8 petrol engine it's located on the end of the Rad top hose, & a 5 min job to replace.
