I've ordered a Nokia Lumia 920...!

Featured Replies

I've had the experience with BlackBerry, iOS and Android, and I've appreciated all of them to be honest. Now I have the new Nokia Lumia 920 on it's way (providing post times and all that jazz) I should receive it by Friday if it is in stock!

I've not been a massive app user certainly not as addictive as this lady!

Anyway I enjoy using various social netword apps and games, news feed apps, etc that should be pretty easy to get hold of (I presume) on the Windows 8 os.

After seeing one in the shop, I was really impressed with the look of the screen, and the fluidity of the user experience. Coming from my Android 2.2.2 it's a million miles away from that, I've also experienced very unstable software usage with my Android after going into the 2nd year of using my LG Optimus 3D.

Now I understand that theres a newer version of Android but I'm a bit wary of getting another one, even though the newer interface is revised I feel that it's missing what I loved about Apple with it's fuss free feel and look...I think the Android OS is just a little too busy for my liking. I'm not sure how others feel about this?

So I've read countless reviews, and YouTube videos of the Nokia Lumia 920 and the other feature I love is the solid frame simular to my MacBook Pro where it's one object with no shutlines! I thought this looked great, I also loved the wireless charging dock you can get in various forms from a FatBoy bean bag, to a desk stand. Coming in and popping your phone on the side to charge sounds like it'll make life that much easier after a night out for example :p

My next hope is that it will work with the Skoda BT set up, I've had a look at the compatibility chart, and all Nokia's seemed to sync with the BT module so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! I know a Mac, and an iPhone would work seamlessly so I'm kind of hoping it wont be a ball-ache syncing it to my Mac, considering the Android was great for using as an external storage device.

So does anyone else have feedback for the new Windows 8 Mobile OS experience? What's it like in a day to day scenario. Does anyone else have this phone?

Here's a little review too... :)http://www.theverge....umia-920-review

If you are running rSAP only, then Nokia have dropped it and a Lumia won't work... However, see the sticky link at the top of the Superb 2 forum, and change the module!

Al.

A friends got one (had a 900 I think as well) as it's a nice bit of hardware - feels nice and a lovely screen/camera. The OS is amazingly fast and very smooth, but a bit. . . shallow? for me. It's very much like the iPhone in that it's all just a list of links to other apps - I prefer the widgets etc Android offers.

For me though, I'd rather one to an iPhone (but a decent Android would still get my money).

I also thought the quality was very nice in overal phone build quality. I understand your shallow comment. I thought that of the iPhone too, not much to it, but then I went to Android and it was very easy to get lost I think... maybe that was LG's personal input too. I still get annoyed with both iPhone, and Android where apps just closed on their own when it became too much for the handset to handle.

I now get errors while trying to make a call on my Android saying "reorganising internal process" So I have to switch it off and then back on, then I get errors when trying to text, or send emails where the screen is registering my touch but nothing is sent. I know this all sounds like software issues but it's got the latest update for the model, and everything installed fine as before it has the update. It could just be that my phone is on it's last legs so I want a phone that will last the duration of the 24 month contract and not 18!

I'm sure everything has a secret self destruct after the warranty expires! when it arrives in the post I'll share some thoughts!!! I just wondered if anyone else has one too?

Nice hardware but I couldn't live with windows.

If nokia made an android phone they'd clean up imo.

Been using WP since day 1 with a Samsung Omnia 7. Looking forward to getting my 920 in the next few days as I'm an upgrade!

I have a Nokia lumia 710 running Windows phone 7.5. Terrible shame that I won't be getting 8 on here but oh well. The OS is very slick but with few apps, sadly it costs 99 dollars to get access to your device to run your own app. Android is also awesome. I will always use one or the other as I still can't find 1 single reason to use iOS.

Good luck getting Windows phone 8 to sync with a OSX, its designed to sync with a Microsoft Live ID and has no sync capability with anything else. WP8 does not even sync directly with Microsoft Windows, it needs to be done via a Windows Live ID.

Oh and yes it will sync with a PC. Microsoft account is required to pull in your Facebook/Twitter/Linkdin/ Google accounts, buy apps, track/wipe/lock, send apps to.

It doesn't sync to a PC or Mac via a Microsoft account. You can plug it in via USB. Microsoft account and internet connection on the device allow you to do those things wirelessly.

You can still plug in into a PC or Mac to pull/push photos etc.

7.8 on the way soon, the only reason it's not "full" WP8 is lack of NFC and other stuff which requires newer hardware. Main features are still there such as new start screen.

I loved my first Samsung Omnia back in 2008! What colour have you chosen?! :p

I've got a live account, and I also have Windows 7 via Bootcamp... hmm hopefully it'll be alright! :)

For the lumia, I'm going for black...will match my car :D

You can download the connector app from the link I posted above or from the mac app store so you won't need to go via bootcamp

Ahh! Thanks Gumby! I've got a yellow one on the way...depending on stock it'll be here on Friday I hope :p Of course it'll also match my car!

Yeah, there is an official tool for both wp7 and wp8 for both max and windows. The wp8 tool supposedly runs under wine with root permissions on Linux.

Got my first android phone 10 days ago....

what an experience, it works and very well, Nexus 4 running 4.2 jelly bean what a joy.

Had every iphone until the 4s the software has got stale and boring to say the least.

Had a Blackberry for a year.... least said the better no wonder these guys are heading for disaster.

I just got mine yesterday!!! Well...it's completely different to Android, which is a brilliant OS. It's a pretty slick UI I can't get over how vibrant the actual phone is!

Annoyingly yes, UKCruiser it wont sync with my phone... damn!!! It finds it ok, then it just says incompatible device.

I've come across a few issues on WP8, and thats not being able to select all in phonebook. However it's got this clever grouping option, so anyone I know in for example Briskoda on my Facebook app will all be put into that group. Making it very easy to contact like minded friends etc...!

I had a Blackberry about 3 years ago, I loved it but it was a little too business like for me! BBM was the best feature, and instant emails as no other device had push like the BB's used to. Now my Hotmail app on my android didn't fail at all!

On'y had the Lumia for less than 12 hours so I'll keep posted, so far I'm impressed with the function and transitions from different screens ie app, to home, to browser etc... :)

I just need to look into this Bluetooth issue with the Octavia because it's a little frustrating!! :(

Since you can use your live ID in office for mac, I wouldn't be that shocked if they made a phone tool.

Failing that there's always VMWare fusion etc.

Beaten to it with the connector.

As I already said, they released a tool for it on mac anyway. They had one for WP7 aswell.

To be fair to Android, some of the previous LG Android phones (particularly the 2X and 3D) were poor and despite running decent hardware and stock Androidthey had a lot of software issues that were never resolved. LG seem to have moved on and produced a decent phone with the Nexus 4, at least in terms of stability and performance.

I'm surprised the camera hasn't been mentioned on the Lumia 920 as some of the shots I've seen from it are extremely impressive for a phone camera, I've no idea why Nokia were so stupid to fake the promo videos and images as the phone clearly didn't need it. However I don't like the locked down approach in Windows Phone, there are some features I like but in general I agree with the comment above about it feeling shallow, I find the same with the new Start screen in Windows 8 (I do like Win8 in general though). It's really the polar opposite of the N900's Maemo operating system which I thought was vastly underrated and I don't like the 920's lack of replaceable battery or microSD expansion (neither of which are unique to WP or Nokia).

the 820 strangely does have the swappable microSD and possibly battery too. Dont know why they ditched it on the 920.

Where did you ordered your 920 from? and what network are you planning on running it on?

How do you find the 920 for size/weight? I had a quick play with one in the phone shop and whilst it was a nice piece of kit, it felt pretty darned chunky. Does it fit in your pocket OK?
