BMM engine in Octavia

Featured Replies

Hello guys

Excuse me if this is a real Newbie question but I was lead initially to believe the BMM engine was only a Scout variant. However I'm looking at a 57 plate Octavia estate which is a 8v BMM form.

Was this to do with emissions, going from 16v to 8v?

Also do they have DPFs as I understand the Scout does but the 16v didn't?

Thank you :-) great forum by the way

My 56 plate 4x4 has a BMM engine and a dreaded DPF. It is a PD engine rather than CR. Emissions wise the CO2 is 160 something g/km.

Is the one you are looking at a 4x4 or just FWD? IIRC only the Scout and 4x4 have a DPF.

Hello, it's a normal Octavia, no 4x4 and not a Scout. Any classification is appreciated :-)

I think it's an error with the UK car details database, checked another 2.0, and that came as 8v. Never trust a Hpi report I guess

Feel free to delete thread

PD = 8v

CR = 16v

It is possible to get a 16V PD.

There are a number of errors online, the only real way to know for sure is to physically check the engine code on the car.

Thanks,

So am I right in thinking that the 2.0 8v was available in the Octavia? I thought all 2.0 TDI in Octavia's were 16v?

All of these cars say 8v on the HPI car check even though Autotrader assumes they are 16v? I thought it was just the Scout that had the 8v version of the 2.0 140 Engine?

Checked details using; http://www.hpicheckfree.co.uk/

Examples (but seems an 2.0 TDI says 8v?)

As far as I am aware there are only two models of Octavia fitted with the 2.0 TDi PD140 8V (SOHC) engine...

1) 4x4

2) Scout

All other 2.0 TDi PD140 Octavia's are 16V (DOHC).

Easy way to check.

The 8V engines have the intake on the back by the firewall. The 16V engines have the intake on the front by the radiator. An engine bay photo should show this clearly.
