Cornering fogs

Featured Replies

A little bit of interesting info, Renault was the first manufacturer to use an additional bulb or light to aid with cornering.

It was first introduced in 2005 in the Modus followed by the Clio.

Here is the Clio's version (this particular model is equipped with bi-xenon too) which utilises a seperate bulb in the main headlight.

I see they use additional markings on the lens to help direct the light...

There's this thing round the corner, it's on a '51 plate. (Says "Crown" on the grille-badge).........

The first light on the right (outside edge) looks to be a similar thing to the Clio (i.e. dedicated bulb), especially as it doesn't project forward.

Is it normal for both front fogs to activate when in reverse gear?

Not normal as such, but yes that is another option that can be enabled if you so desire.

Thanks.

My dealer activated the cornering fogs but I was surprised when both fogs illuminated when reverse gear was selected - wasn't expected so wondered if it was a coding error.

Is it normal for both front fogs to activate when in reverse gear?

yes.....if cornering fogs r enabled.

I personallt think they're a gimmick. I have them on my superb and barely notice them coming on. I drive country lanes on my commute but its over 40 kmh in which case they dont activate. On my kia sportage I owned there were seperate lights which were purely cornering lights which came on as the wheel was turned or you indicated. This wad a much better system. However neither of these came anywhere near as effective as the cornering xenons. I really miss these from my Vrs.

On a different note of fog light use, does anyone else think that front and rear fogs should come on using only one switch to prevent all the idiotic posers leaving fronts on permently. I can't see a need to have one on without the other.

If both came on simultaneously then those driving with a combination of sides/fogs to give the illusion of having DRLs would only dazzle those poor sods stuck behind them. I doubt such would prevent their misuse.

Perhaps intelligent fogs are the way forward.

The reason you can set both alternately is so that in fog, should you be at the head of a line of cars, you can leave your front fogs on whilst turning the rears off and not dazzling the guy three car lengths behind, who is sufficiently close to see you courtesy of your car's normal lights, without the need for your rear fogs to be on.

I activated my cornering fogs but noticed that when in reverse they both switch off not on. Is there a seperate option for this then?

Phil

Yes Phil, there is another box to be be ticked for them to illuminate when in reverse gear, these screenshots were done on a MY11 TT, so the Bytes and Bits may not be exactly the same as your Octavia, but it gives you an idea what you are looking for.

Hmmm. I'm pretty sure my car doesn't have that box.

Mines an MY2008 pre-FL so must be different.

Will have a look later anyway.

Phil

Ah being a pre 2009 (where controllers changed) is there anything under 46-Central.Conv?

I had a late 2008 JUST pre FL Octy and the fogs didn't come on when reversing

This may be a 2009 onwards thing only thing then as they use a different CECM (nothing is under 46- Central. Conv)

The cornering fogs on my 2007 vRS do not come on in reverse.

This I believe was an additional feature added at a later date, sometime in 2009 by the look of it.

Had a look.

Definitely no option for them to come on in reverse.

Not to worry.

I do find them pretty useful actually and they did illuminate a cat on a road I was turning into the other day and I was able to see it and brake.

Phil

Not an option on my 2008 model.

The cornering fogs? Or the twin illumination in reverse?

The cornering fog function is activated on my 2007 vRS so it will be possible on your 2008 Scout.

In fact when Mike finally moves to the East coast I'll be hoping to pay him a visit and ask him to activate them on my 2008 Scout

Cornering fogs work, just not the reverse thing.

Cool, you had me worried then that I wouldn't be able to get the cornering fog lights to work on my Scout

Keep in mind that I'm in York and have VCDS should you need anything doing :)

Ah, cheers Phil, I didn't realise you had VCDS, I remember a conversation we had where you mentioned you had a more basic code reader. I take it you've upgraded :giggle:

I take it it's pretty tough at the moment Mike, where's the issue, stuggling to sell or waiting for the right house to come onto the market?

Yes I recently upgraded when I got the new car as the cheapo I had didn't do CAN cars and didn't want to have to rely on meeting with other people to change stuff.

Drop me a PM if you like and we can sort something out. I'm in Acomb so you can either come to me or I can come to you.

Or he could come along to one of the Malthouse meets ;-)

It's selling here that's the problem. We've got 2 places very much in mind in Whitby as soon as we've sold, but we can't do anything about it until a sale is agreed.

Mike

Fingers crossed it'll all come good eventually Mike!

Cheers Phil, I'll take you up on that offer when I get a free weekend, ta!!
