Haynes Manual: Any relevance to vRS owner?

Featured Replies

Hello gents.

I note that you can only get a Haynes manual for a Mk2 Octavia diesel non-vRS models. I wondered if it would still be useful for working on my Octavia? I am particularly wondering about changing brake discs. Surely it's got to be largely the same processes between the different models and the steps and instructions set out in the manual will be largely relevant?

Thanks.

my other half bought me the haynes book of lies for xmas and it does look pretty similar so for most part i'd say it will be handy to have.

It only talks about engines in KW ( not sure why haynes dont talk english in these books) so im not sure if they mention the pd170 engines or not

One thing 1.9 TDI owners should be aware of is that the Haynes manual describes removing the calliper bracket (pad carrier) as part of the routine for changing rear disks – If you have the 255mm rear disks this is not necessary, there is clearance to remove the disk with the carrier still in place. My understanding is that for the bigger disks (which the VRS would certainly have) pad carrier removal is necessary. I believe Haynes manuals miss some points like this as they are based on non model specific general routines applicable to most cars.

Well I''ve just bought one off eBay so we'll have to see how applicable it is.

Confirmed. Had to take them off to change discs couple of weeks back.

Step 1. disconnect the battery.

Battery didn't get in the way :p

I have a Scout and have the same issue, but reckoned it was worthwhile getting the manual for all the run-of-the-mill things that are pretty much standard across the whole range.

At some point you'll probably need to take an internal trim panel, etc off, and then at least it should give you an idea of where to start and in which order to rive at those annoying plastic trim clips without breaking them all
