How do you know when the DMF is on its way out?

How much have posters paid for the smf conversion please? Just rough ball park, and have you sourced parts yrself, or just gone to the garage to sort?

Cheers

Not entirely sure of the cost, but it should be noted that it is not possible to do a SMF conversion on any DSG.

And although there are plenty of people who have had their 1.9 TDI's converted to SMF and report great results, I notice you have a 2.0 TDI......There are differing views as to weather a SMF is a good idea on a 2.0 TDI (due to the significant difference in torque/power figures to the 1.9).

I've yet to hear a first hand account of anyone converting a 2.0 TDI to SMF, and I'd like to hear what it's like before I made the decision to convert.

I had this conversion carried out in May 2012 Adam, where I purchased the kit from "oop North" and then had it fitted down here in Kent

However, I am going up to Barnsley tomorrow, to have the kit replaced/refitted because all has not been well - slipping clutch, noises and heavy clutch pedal along with a strange feel on release.

I should point out that I am not pointing the finger at anyone in particular (wise not to do so until the actual problem is diagnosed), but Darkside Developments have been very helpful, whereas the garage which fitted the kit for me have not.

I will try to post more when hopefully it is all sorted out.

DS charge £150.00 plus VAT for fitting, which together with the kit, makes it a very cheap option when compared to a DMF.

Thanks for the replies gents, hadn't appreciated the smf conversion was less common on a 2ltr. Luckily no sign of failure on mine yet but it is of a mileage where they have been known to go so just researching costs really.
