56 Plate VRS TDI cruise control

Featured Replies

Picking up my new car next week. In my excitement to buy it an snap his hand off, i forgot to check if it had cruise control. Does it come standard on one of these, or is it an extra?

Not a necessity, but i do loads of motorway miles, so would be good. if not, is it expensive to get fitted? i saw a diy on the net, but i wouldnt dare mess with the electrics and it looked a long job....

Jamie

I was told about £230 to supply and fit at Skoda dealers.

Ok, so not stupid money then. Thanks, so i guess it is not necessarily standard on these. the VRS steering wheel had no buttons on it

The buttons aren't on steering wheel they're on indicator stalk. For a 56 reg it was an optional extra.

It wasnt standard till 57/08 I believe. The early models were known as "poverty spec" as they were in a rush to get them out and sold. Im lucky as my 56 plate is loaded with extras (cruise control, climatronic aircon, HID's, Maxidot display, etc) but normaly you wouldnt get any of that with an early vrs.

Its even cheaper if you get the kit your self.

You can get 2 different kits, one using the indicator stalk or one using an extra stalk which fits under the indicator stalk.

In the for sale section there is a chap breaking a vrs with the cruise control stalk. I'd bit his hand off for it as all you'd need then (so im told) is for it to be activated in VCDS

(and you know TDCI is Ford dont you?)

...and if you fancy a trip up the M5. Go and see Tech1e up Worcester way, somewhere I saw his avatar saying he does cruise control fitting.

Do it yourself and get some near you to activate it with vag com

An overview of my electrical skills:

My last house, fitted a new light. When I turned it on, all the others downstairs went off and when I turned it off, they all went on.

Had nova years ago, battery died, but was rusted in so I put another on the other wing and wired it across with wires ripped out of a broken aircon unit from the shop at work. They melted when I turned it over (how was i supposed to know about current and amps....)

First car was a beetle. Put a new stereo in and the fuses kept blowing. A nail in the fusebox fixed it sorted it till I burned my fingers on it.

I could go on, but I hope you understand my reluctance at playing with airbags and wiring looms to fit a new stalk. I am dangerous with electrics!!

Other problem is I maxed the budget buying this car, so if it does not have one when I collect, I will have to live without for a month or so.....

Thoroughly amusing. If only your wiring skills were as high as your levels of reality and honesty, you'd be able to fit all the gadgets yourself. Enjoy your new car.

best part is I fixed the nova problem by getting more of the same inadequate wires and plaiting them together until they stopped melting. My neighbour was an electrician and would always refuse to get in or near the car....
