According to some Haldex bumf I have very recently come across the filter and oil on the Haldex unit should be changed every 20k miles, can anyone confirm this please.

If this is in fact the case would I be correct in assuming that the Skoda garage (Grey Gables Witney) that undertake my servicing should have flagged this up to be done?

They didn't flag it up and the work hasn't been done and the Yeti has done 31k so far and I just wonder that in the event that the unit failed due to poor maintenance when my car is out of warranty in May 2013 due to a maintenance requirement not being undertaken what recourse would I have.

I will contact the garage next week after the hols and see what their response is but it makes me wonder just what these guys consider to be customer service and support if they fail to advise their customers regarding the manufacturers maintenance requirement of an integral part of the 4wd capability of the Yeti.

No idea on yours but plenty of threads show with a search or Google.

Let us know the answer when you get it please.

Talked to Grey gables this am and the recommendations for haldex unit oil and filter maint are 20k to 40k miles max depending how hard the vehicle is driven. The mechanics experienced view, vehicle records and mileage etc will be the relevant criteria used for the work to be carried out and there is a 60k kilometers service interval haldex oil change (which I had not picked up) in the service schedule booklet.

My dealer has just changed our Haldex oil at 3 years, just under 60k miles, and suggests it won't need doing for another 3 years.

It's 60,000 km NOT 60,000 miles so around every 37,500 miles roughly. I had mine done at 20,000 miles and paid extra for the privilege, it'll be done again at the next service too at around 37,000 miles/3 years. I'd never leave it longer than the recommended mileage for the Haldex coupling and (personal choice) would have it done earlier. :-)

£80?! Blimey, ive been quoted cheaper at my local dealer so id check with your indy to make sure they are quoting right. :)

There is an interesting article on all things Haldex in march's (2013) issue of 4x4 Magazine. The Yeti get a brief mention along with the Octavia, XC90, Freelander & Evoke as well as a few others.

There appears to be some confusion over when the Haldex fluid needs changing.

I was told by the dealer in Oswestry when I had mine serviced at roughly 36k miles that it had to be done at 3 years or 60k miles, and this was confirmed by Sinclair Skoda in Swansea when it went in for it's last service at 56k miles and just under 3 years old.

Confirms the confusion!!

Hi all, my 2012 Yeti seems to have forgotten its a 4WD. Over the past few weeks it has started behaving more like a FWD... You know... torque steer, front wheels slipping on take-off. But worst of all, a couple of loud bangs if you floor it in 1st or 2nd (its a DSG).

The sound was so bad I though it had jumped out of gear, got back in gear and jumped out again! As soon as you back off eveything is fine.. drive it non aggressively its fine.  I rang Skoda and they were skeptical. However once I took it to the workshop

and they drove it, and spent a lot of time looking for computer somethings.... they confirmed it had a problem. Phew! 

 

They said it was the Haldex unit. Apparently, its very rare, and only a few here in Australia have had this problem.

 

Surprisingly they have a "fix kit" for it here in Australia so hopefully all will be good. Anyone else heard of this problem?   

Not heard of it, but would be interested to know what the "fix kit" actually is...

I had problems with an intermittent loud banging noise from the rear underside of my 2010 Octavia II 1.8TSI 4X4 during a journey recently, The noise became so bad that I pulled into a service area and called for breakdown assistance. The patrol man discovered an oil leak from the rear underside and subsequent investigation found that this was from a breather hole on top of the final drive unit. The complete final drive unit (diff, Haldex and Haldex ECU) was replaced under an extended warranty. A Yeti 4X4 owner has since had his final drive unit changed too because of a similar oil leak..

Blimey, I bet you're glad you took that warranty out then?

 

Do you know what would have happened without it?  Would you have been fully liable....and how much would that have cost you?

 

I believe you had the 2yrs Skoda extended warranty did you not?

Yes, I have a 2 year Skoda Approved Extended Warranty and Breakdown which cost me £600.  The latter covered the breakdown callout and a 160 mile relay recovery to my local Skoda dealer.  The retail price of the final drive unit is circa £3165 and the replacement cost with labour would have been considerably more than that.  Car Care Plan covered the replacement cost in full.  I guess that without the extended warranty I would probably have had to cover the cost in full.  I bought the car privately off another Briskoda member so pursuing a claim under the SOGA would not have been an option.  However the car has only done 19166 miles and has a full Skoda dealer service history so I would have investigated a goodwill claim.

I remember we spoke about the warranty a while ago.  All very sobering and a cast iron case for taking out warranties .....  there have been those bods on here (I recall having the odd exchange or two with one in particular) who have glibly said "stick the money in a tin and build up a fund in case of unexpected repairs".  It would have had to have been some kind of a tin-ful to fund your outlay if goodwill hadn't been forthcoming! (and there aren't many courts in the land who would force a manufacturer to offer goodwill if it chose not to).

 

Had you asked yourself what you'll do beyond the extra two years?

 

With my car three and a half yrs old I'm just 6 months into my first year with CCP via CSMA so have a way to go before being forced into any decisions at the 5 year point....but I shall bear your case in mind.  I just looked again at the Ford extended warranty for TWO extra yrs.  Up to B Max is £240 for 2 yrs.  and Mondeo/Kuga etc is £300 for 2 yrs.  Breakdown cover is included free for 12 months if you have a Ford routine main dealer service.

Other potentially expensive possibilites included the Haldex (unlikely to fail), aircon compressor failure (not uncommon), turbo, and water pump failure (a biggish job on the 1.8TSI). The final drive failure was totally unexpected but has also happened to a Yeti owner in the last fortnight. When the extended warranty expires I should have the option of further extending it a year at a time, before which I think I will get the timing chain tensioner and timing chain replaced by the latest versions so that I don't have the worry of engine failure.

I intend to keep my car long term. It is still pretty much like new, will only do a few thousand miles a year, and I have invested in a full leather retrim.

I am looking to keep my Scout long term. Where did you get your vehicle re trimmed, would you recommend them, and can you give me a rough ball park figure of how much. Not bothered about heated seats.
