HELP! Red light, ECU errors and stuck windows!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I went out to my car the other day and noticed after I had unlocked it, the door LED was on and solid. Later on my friend got in the car and after he shut the door it started "clicking", the only way to stop it was to turn the car on and off. After that he tried the window and it wouldn't open and my controls wouldn't open it either, but if you lifted the rubber door sleeve then the passenger door would control the window.

Driving along yesterday and my control would open but not close it and the passenger one would close it.

I fault coded it and came up with these....

I really don't know what is going on!

Help!

The first two are pointing to the Lamba, which I know is faulty because I am running a decat. But what does the last one mean? can't find it on RossTech

P0138 OBD-II Trouble Code

Technical Description

O2 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank1, Sensor2)

What does that mean?

The Heated Oxygen Sensor (2) located rear of catalytic converter produces an output signal relative to oxygen storage capacity of catalytic converter. Ho2S 2 signal is less active than signal produced by front oxygen sensor. This code sets when HO2 Sensor voltage is greater than 999 mV for more than 2 minutes (time depends on model. Could be as high as 4 minutes) Symptoms

There may be no noticeable symptoms except for MIL illumination. Possible high fuel pressure can over rich the system. Causes

A code P0138 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

Faulty O2 sensor Short to battery voltage in O2 sensor signal circuit High fuel pressure (not as likely) Possible Solutions

Here are some potential solutions:

Replace O2 sensor Repair short to battery voltage in o2 sensor signal circuit

Window faults are 99% certain to be broken wires in the convoluted trunking from the door to the A pillar.

Very, very common on Sharans and Alhambras and can cause all manner of random window and central locking faults depending on exactly which wires are broken

Ok, so do I replace or try and fix? If replace - how much and where from? And if I do fix how much interior panelling will I need to take off/how far in to the car does this wire go?

On the other side... why is the red door light on?

I noticed today that the rear door was looked until the passenger door was opened. Same loom of different one?

I've got a quote for the cable. It's £20 second hand. Going to go up Tuesday and get it.

New things have started to happen though...

When I open the car, all the windows go down and when I am driving the central locking will click away like crazy unless I lock the doors. I can hear the relay under the steering wheel. Is this right?

Also the fans wouldn't blow up to there high speed unless I clicked them on or off. will this all be related?

If this passenger door cable doesn't fix it, how can I track the problem?

Ok, I've found out the source of the issue...

I took out the cable and found water in the connectors! I sprayed water on the window and water is flooding in from bottom edge of the glass. So I have ordered a new rubber seal and hopefully this will solve the issue!

As for the connectors... is there something I can put on them so that just in-case this isn't the source of the water ingress I can stop water from getting on the connectors?

Water will always get into the door, thats why it has drain holes on the bottom and a membrane to stop the water entering the cabin. A new rubber seal will reduce the volume however. The name escapes me, but you can get a special type of grease that you cover the innards of the connector with, you then reconnect the two halves and the grease stops water completely. You cannot use just any old grease though.

The fault code app you are using will only read the engine ECU, there are many in the Octavia MK1. The app whilst good is nothing compared to VCDS that can read fault codes from all the ECU's in the car. The convienience ECU controls all the doors and windows and will also have fault codes logged you cannot see.

What is the fault code app you are using i have vcds already but that looks pretty usefull if your not carting your laptop about with you.

That code reader app looks to be OBDII only which is why it cameup with no faults relating to the door and wiring.

To the OP, which end of the cable did you undo? The end in the door or the end behind the trim with the bonnet release?

Ignore my first post i have found the app in playstore and looks like a usefull bit of software all be it not as comprehensive as vcds. Did you buy an elm327 Bluetooth device and if so do you have a link to where you bought it? I assume it works with a MKII Octavia? Sorry im not being very helpful regards you problem but the advice above is what i would have suggested although i would have used something a bit more permanent than greece maybe epoxy resin etc.

When the window is sealed tight I wouldn't imagine any water should be able to get down past the rubber? This was literally flooding down, not a slow leak.

I ordered a new one for £11 anyways. I have been suggested either white grease or silicone grease, but no one can give me an answer on where to get that one?

I had water in the dorr connectors. I pulled off the window regulator one and that had green water in it! Been collecting for a while!

I am using Torque with the Bluetooth adaptor and I also have Vagcom.

I would also check the other end of the wire where it goes into a connector behind the trim I mentioned. I found water ran down the wire and collected at the other end.

You will never get the window water tight, that's why there is the membrane inside the door.

Yes but which bluetooth adapter? some wont work obviously yours does so do you remember where you got it from or even better have a link.

On the feedback for the app most people are saying the elm327 B.T Adapter but not sure if this works with the port on my octavia mkII

First place I checked and it was bone dry.

I appreciate that, the minute the window goes down you break the seal and the water goes in.

Is the mk2 still OBD2? I thought it was different? I have tried my adaptor on newer cars and it doesn't work. Look back through my posts and I got the one that was linked to me from eBay.

OBDII is limited to engine and emissions systems. So it can't do anything CAN related but it can't talk to the other non CAN controllers in the mkI either (such as the central convenience, which is probably greatly upset on your car).
