Heater fan

Featured Replies

Hi all, can anyone out there please tell me why my heater fan is suddenly running slow, but when I operate my windscreen washers the fan speeds up to normal full speed for just 15 seconds (normal) and then drops away again to nothing????

Thanks

I have a similar, new problem with the climate control fan on my Octavia (Skoda Octavia 2007 Elegance 1.9TDi, 75k miles, dual climate control).

While the car is running, the fan for the climate control system randomly cuts out. No amount of fiddling with the controls will get the fan to run again. This has now happened every day for the last few days. Adjusting the digital temperature control still changes the temperature of the air that trickles in through the vents while the car is moving. The fuse for the fan does not blow - and the fan works as normal after the car has been turned off and on again (until it next cuts out). There are no obvious squealy fan-bearing noises to be heard (although my first port of call will be to check the fan motor bearings). The climate control system was otherwise working perfectly prior to this starting to happen.

Questions: Does the car automatically shut down the fan if it detects a problem? Does this sound like a fan bearing problem?

Bantam, I believe that its turning on recirculation to stop the smell of the washer fluid being sucked into the car.

All,

My problem is getting steadily more frequent (see above, 3rd Jan). Now, after driving for as little as a minute or two the fan shuts off. After a restart of the ignition it always comes back, but again only for a minute or two. If, when it is working, I fiddle with the fan speed - this causes it to fail straight away.

Not sure what to investigate first - any suggestions?

did anyone get to the bottom of this? I find that my fan not only 'kicks' back into action when I use the windscreen washer jets but also when I select reverse. It quickly returns back to slow though.

This is really beginning to annoy and is also leaving us with a cold/steamed up car.
