is it normal for my turbo to whistle mixed reviews

Featured Replies

hi every one

i have just had my octavia vrs over a week and my mate gave it a once over on the diagnostic and it came up with a fault on I think the turbo air inlet sensor its right at the front of the engine.

we had a look and found it was not plugged in. after plugging it in the fault cleared and no more faults were found.

know on the way home the car drove different in the way that i can hear the turbo whistle and the bump after the turbo has boosted . is this normal or has some one put a different turbo on my car

must add mit driving its driving even better then before

Petrol?

What do you mean "and the bump after the turbo has boosted"?

Presume petrol, as it's an MY06 in the profile.

Doesn't sound particularly normal, I'd be a bit worried about why the sensor was unplugged too?

me too

you hear the turbo whistle as the car boosts and the the blow noise you get after

but it has only done this after putting the plug back in

the person that had before me i was told was a older gentlemen hope i don't afferent any one with that and not sure if by unplugging it made the turbo quitter

and yes its the petrol 2.0L

You shouldn't really hear the turbo on the tfsi engine, they're very quite without an uprated exhaust. Blown turbos whine usually and they don't often blow on these engines, mine was going strong after 100k.

Are you sure it's not a boost leak hissing sound?

dont think so it only does it when you put your foot down.

its not really a whistle its the noise you get when you hear scoobies put there foot down but not as loud

did you say in a previous thread you got it from a dealer?

They might let you have contact details of the previous owner. You will have the previous owners name and address when the V5 comes through anyway

ye i have his name and address in the owners book

what would you ask

just been reading some other threads and i might be getting the whistle confused with the turbo spooling up its my first turbo power car so im sorry if i got some thing wrong but should be able to hear it spool

You can often make out the sound on spool-up, but wouldn't say from memory on a standard vRS TFSi that it's audible all the time.

I would ask if it's got a non-standard induction system fitted, but perhaps not if it's an older gent as the previous owner although stranger things have happened :)

If it's a dealer car, do you have a warranty with it? If so it might be worth getting them to check it over sooner rather than later, in case it is something more serious.
