Retro fitted Bolero

Featured Replies

If you have retro fitted a bolero how is the radio signal please? Mine seems to be quite poor considering how good It was with the stream mp3.

I have the port plugged into the inner of the two holes, but it doesn't click in if that makes a difference as the unit comes from a car with a duel antenna

Try the right hand one instead, think the left is am and the right is fm & am. You may want to consider getting an adapter to make sure it clicks in and fits properly.

Rainbow, cheers for the link. Did you ever try it without the splitter?

I don't have an issue with radio reception. Mike Holroyd plugged the aerial into the inner one aswell.

Simon, did it click in as mine didn't. I'm worried that even if I buy an adopter, it won't help. Might take it out again and see what it's like on the old stereo

Yes. However, I didn't do an extensive listening test. IIRC the later cars and headunits has two aerials for FM and switches between them as signal changes. (AM doesn't figure in the equation). I only listen to Radio 2 and any travel, so signal strength and quality doesn't make much difference: let's be honest we're in a car - not the best place to listen to music in quality.

I had the single cable plugged into the inner connector as that's the AM/FM one - worked ok. However, if you look at the radio diagnostics it will give you an error (as will VCDS) about one of the aerials not being connected.

The other thing that the splitter does (for me anyway) was to extend the aerial connector. When I installed the MDI kit, I put the original connector behind the heating controls (loads of room there) but this meant either cutting the aerial free of the bundle or getting an extension. I went with the extension option as it solved the aerial error too.

My current headunit is DAB with FM fall-back, so most of the time I'm on DAB now anyway. :) :)

The adapter cable did have everything click into place too.

I shall get it ordered and see if it helps. At the moment the radio just comes and goes :(

Finally sorted a price with the seller so all ordered, now time to wait

I think I got mine in less than a week. Quicker than some stuff from the UK!

No major rush as I won't be able to fit it until the weekend. Just hope this is it and not the amp base on the roof.

Best sort some more mp3s for the time being

Following on from a chat with Mike I tested the signal, see below. This is intermittant though and does drop out occassionally

Try one of the 2 into 1 adapters

Also might be worth trying your old radio to see if it improves, I have seen cases of the the inner core of the car antenna extension cable has come loose.

If the bolero is at fault I will PM accross my VIN and registration and you should take it to the dealer.

Thanks Eddie. I will try the old stream in, but wonder if I can get a decent read out on the signal or not like you can on the bolero. It could just be bad timing and my aerial has gone though.

Will try the old stereo first and report back

Yes it did "click".

Me too, odd the old one wouldn't just clip in but at least I can now listen to the football on the odd occasion and for £9.50 it was a cheap fix.

Thanks again Eddie, perfect sale.

Just need Groupon to sort my SD card now, bloody Jessops!!!
