Who's moved from Octavia vRS to Superb?

Featured Replies

Hi all

I'm considering a change in about 6 mths time when I might be changing jobs and the new will involve racking up a lot more motorway and rural A road miles.

One reason to change will be my existing PCP deal is for 12,000 miles PA but if I change job, it will be more like 20,000 miles.

Prob a used car.

So looking at the availability, I think the most suitable one would be the 170 CR 4x4 Estate (for family / dogs etc) and prob in Elegance spec.

One thing I would like to know is: is the Superb a marked improvement in seat comfort and refinement etc? I've seen various posts in both Superb and Octavia forums from people who don't get on with their seats. I don't think the Octavia vRS seats are too bad (mine are leather), but I'm not that enamoured with the lumbar support.

Any personal experience from people who have made the transition would be appreciated.

Evan

I've sat in a few with and without lumber support and in my views the seats are fine either way and the car is very quiet inside and from looking at your location status Motherwell (I'm in wishaw) Henry's skoda kyle street Glasgow are the place to go brilliant customer service in my views. parks Hamilton where rubbish. The superb's are in a different league from the octavia's

I moved from a Mk1 Octavia vRS to Superb (170 dsg) and have no regrets. I do sometimes- and only sometimes, miss the power and revs associated with the petrol engine but in every other aspect the Superb is a much better place to be. You think your Octavia has a big boot! I made the move due to the arrival of my second child and needed a bit more space. I do miss my vRS, but the 170 is by no means a 'slouch' and can still make quick progress if required. The DSG and low down torque make it feel effortless but don't expect more than 14,000 miles from a set of front tyres. Why don't you wait to look at the 2013 Octavia vRS? Regards, Neil.

The electric lumbar support found on the elegance seats is miles ahead of the crap system they use on the manual seats… I suffer with back problems and have no problem with my seats.

I moved from a MKI (Comfort spec) Superb to my current MKII Superb Estate 170CR Elegance, this was a huge jump forwards.

Likewise the MKI Superb replaced a MKI Octavia Elegance and it was also a huge jump forwards in spec and comfort.

As for the tyre wear, I am on 28K miles and there is still a few K’s left in the fronts… I do run winter tyres for 4-5 months per year though, so they have probably done around 18K so far.

If you do not need 4WD then the FWD is more than capable with 200bhp (winter tyres will always beat 4WD when it gets cold)

I moved from from an Octavia vRS (2.0TFSI) to a Superb Elegance (2.0TSI) in March 2012.

The Superb is a big step up in refinement. I've found myself taking the car on trips where I'd previously gone by train because the Superb is just such a nice place to spend time. Its so much quieter inside than the Octavia.

I've done some long driving days in both cars and the seats have been fine, but if I had to choose I'd say the Octavia seats were marginally better for overall comfort.

I moved from a vRS 147TSI to a V4 4X4 two months ago. The Superb is a much more sophisticated and upmarket product and much better equipped. It is smoother, much quieter and more spacious. It handles well and carries its weight well, is swift and effortless. It is altogether more grown up. However, the vRS felt more connected to the road and responsive, it was fun to chuck around and precise in its feel and response by comparison. Its horses for courses really. One is more grown up, the other more boy racer. But I really miss my vRS seat - they felt right first time, whereas the I can't get fully comfy in the Superb, something I have never felt in any modern car. Takes the shine off an otherwise ...... Superb car!

I've gone from a vRS (mk I) to A superb, although via a roomster.

The Superb is a great touring car and actually not that bad on smaller A&B roads. Can feel a little wide on the smaller b's though.

Comfort is great, drove from mid cheshire to lands end one stop and didn't feel like I'd done it.

Driving around Sheffield; diabolical roads, in the Superb, I don't notice the bumps, I go out in swmbo's honda civic and I find myself checking if it's ok, so much bumpier and nosier it's alarming. The key there is when I had the RS, the civic felt very comfortable.

As others have said, when pushing, you will or I do miss the seating grip, depends a bit on build and how much pushing. Tbh, I'm 5'11" at 11.5stone and when I feel the seat is lacking I'm normally up to no good on the road anyway.

HTH.

We ran a pd Octy VRS alongside our Superb , found the latter much more comfortable for long trips , not in the same ball park in all honesty

I used to run a mkI Octy 4x4 ekegance and the seats were pants. The sup II is from a class above for space, comfort and refinement, even with 80k now on the clock. Only issue i have is there is very little room for your feet when using cruise, especially compared to my wife's mkII Octy Eleg and the centre console is so wide your left leg also feels cramped when using cruise on long runs. One other issue i get is the leather seems to radiate heat on long runs, even without the bum warmers on so i'll be specing the ventillated option on the next one which wasn't an option in 2009, roll on June for a new one but the Octy III looks tempting!

I drive an Octy VRS, my father has a Superb. Although I wouldn't trade him the Superb really is a quality piece of kit and very impressive. Refinement, comfort & ride are brilliant and the interior is a very nice place to be. Although I wouldn't tell him this, the performance is pretty sharp too! Blag a test drive, surely a nice place to while away 20,000 miles.
