Car wont start, any ideas?

Featured Replies

got in the fabia this morning, turned the key and the car started fine for about 2 seconds then died, now it wont start. the engine turns over, theres a spark, and the fuel pump primes, cant think of anything else it could be. does sound like fuel to me though as it started for a short period then cut out, just using the fuel left in the pipes. its got half a tank in it so its not empty. its a 1.4 16v 2001. got a mechanic friend coming round tonight to try and diagnose the problem. ive had the car on charge all day and keep trying to start it on the off chance it may go but nothing. there was no previous symptoms to what it could be nor any lights on the dash bar the traction control one due to a snapped abs sensor but this has been on for the last month or so.

if anybody could shed any light on this id be very greatful!

cheers sam

Fuel pump or immobiliser I think.

Had it read on vag com last night and came back with a few fault codes. The main ones where throttle body and fuel pump.

Looking at second hand throttle body's on eBay. The part number on mine is 036 133 062 A but all the ones on eBay are exactly the same number but end in a N instead of an A. Are there any difference? Cheers

If the fuel pump has failed then surely the fuel from the pipe to engine would still be pressurised allowing for the short initial run, after that fuel pressure would drop and the engine would cut out as the pump isnt pressurising the fuel line.

Like KenONeil Said, I think you need to look at the fuel pump!

Thank for the reply. I'll try the fuel pump first then. Hopefully that will sort it

Have a look at the fuel pump relay, you should be able to check it via the output test function in VCDS.

If it's any help. I have just had problems with my 02 polo awy.
