The Yeti Facelift - December

Featured Replies

But the MQB platform opens possibilities for a slight stretch to the wheelbase and a therefore larger cabin or boot.

With the Yeti at present being the ****** child between a Polo nose and an Audi TT/Passat rear (and whatever else they could find) the wheelbase can be whatever they wanted, even now... No need to wait for MQB for that to be honest.

  • ALL!! THIS IS NOT THE FACELIFT YETI. THIS IS AUTOEXPRESS'S IMPRESSION OR PHOTOSHOP IDEA. NOTE THE WORD IDEA. THEY ACTUALLY SAY THIS IN THE ARTICLE. PLEASE STOP WORRY

  • Listen Skodalcoda chappie, there's never a worry on here about straying off the original topic to the point that if a topic does NOT stray it must be real boring - and anyway there are enought pedants

I am given to understand that Skoda are getting two big feedback points about what puts potential customers off the Yeti. The boot is too small and the styling is too van like. I think they will have to lengthen the wheelbase to deal with both these issues. I haven't heard that the foglights are an issue, it's more the straight rear end that isn't liked.

Oh, and I forgot to add, massive, ugly DSG gear knob, but they have dealt with that :giggle:

...........but I love the Tonka Toy square rear end...at least it is different.

Another vote to keep the Tonka Toy square rear end. That and the round DRL/fogs are a big part of what makes the Yeti look so distinctive :-)

The only thing that I would not mind on a face-lift (and the Yeti will be sure to get), is the new look corporate grill. I have never been keen on the big top, chunky chrome grill piece. I have carbon wrapped mine, so at least it looks a bit different/sporty, especially with the new look replacement Skoda badge.

I agree on point 1 but have never heard anyone (including the motoring press) ever say the rear is too upright. Nearly ever single other competitor has some form of a sloping rear hatch with a sort of exaggerated BMW Hoffmeister kink in the side window line leading up at 90 degrees to the hatch. (There are threads with images of these on here somewhere) So no, the Yeti is distinctive as a result and this makes the boot much more useful than if it had had a sloping rear hatch.

The Yeti looks like an old fashioned station wagon. In other words a low box at the front with an engine in and a bigger box for the passengers behind that. A van is a mono box. So how a Yeti looks "van like" I fail to grasp. :-)

Keep the Tonka looks for me. That, & the "Floating roof" where what drew me to the car in the first place. Style for a purpose is always important to me. Mind you, I did once buy a mk1 Multipla......

A van is a mono box.

Certainly true for larger vans, but not CDV's (car-derived van that is). That's the criticism of the Yeti I've heard at first hand - too much like a CDV. Doesn't bother me personally, but it's definitely what onlookers seem to think and say. But I really would like to see the small box and large box better melded together.

Sounds different do you have a pic of yours?

I wonder if Land Rover get the same feedback for the Discovery? One of the plus points for me is that it looks like a "proper" 4x4, and that it is very spacious for its external dimensions.

Maybe I'm in a minority of one, but my main problem with the Yeti styling (not that it stopped me buying one) is that aft of the A pillar it does indeed have more the look of a traditional 4x4. But the front-end is much more car-like. That's the combination that doesn't gel to my eye.

I must admit to liking the styling/shape of the latest LR Freelander- looks nice inside too. Just not sure about the reliability though. About the only other SUV that has a nice square rear.

That is the exact image I was on about. See all of them (apart from the weird Misubishi) has the same window line at the back going at 90 degrees to the hatch. Nope the Yeti is very distinctive. Unless you park it next to a Land Rover Defender or Discovery. LOL

Wow, those cars in that image are all so generic I would really struggle to tell you what they are.

There might be a good reason (e.g.. aerodynamics?) for their relative similarity ;)

Whereas our Yeti have the aerodynamics of a barn door.......

45 degrees perhaps?

I'm just going to sit back and wait for the proper Skoda announced version and then make up my mind.....

Sensible decision.

Phew, Autoexpress have just released their interpretation of the facelift Yeti, (which if it's as accurate as their pics normally are, it won't be far off) & I hate it! How could they have come up with something so bland? It's a VW Toe-rag with a Rapid nose nailed on (but obviously it'll be smaller) So, to the relief of my good lady, my wallet's going away & I'm sticking with what I've got!

Is this a new picture? I can't see it on their website today under the latest news. Probably under my nose as usual.....

I think all of the 'pictures' thus far have been interpretations of what the car may look like.

One common thread, though, is that there will be a stretched version based on the Tiguan. One particular Skoda salesman 'told' me the other day that this had been a concept that has now been dropped. Said salesman, though, was the most obnoxious creature I'd ever met - I checked my watch when he said "good morning".

I, for one, think that Skoda will captitalise on the Yeti's success & bring out both swb & lwb versions - this article holds more than a ring of truth for me:

Edit: P.S: Apologies, I got carried away. Link is about the new models, this thread is about facelift - oops

It was bargee's fault though sir - he started it, he mentioned the toe-rag
