Electric Gremlins - Door Switch Related?

Featured Replies

I hate electrics!!

Lol, issues -

* Radio doesn't turn off when key taken out and car off, even when locked. Is this normal? Do you have to turn it off at the switch every time?

* I think my drivers door micro switch might be a problem, interior let set to 'door open mode' stays on with all doors shut and after locking the car. The other 3 doors put the door open warning on the dash as does the boot. The drivers door open doesn't do this (only once or twice has it brought up the warning so its kinda intermittent.

The only thing that is confusing me a little is the lights on buzzer works each time, there'll be no door open sign on the dash but the buzzers going :S

Argh!! Confused!!

Cheers guys for any help ;)

Btw, ill check fuses in the morning!

Hi Josh,

The radio should turn off when you take the key out of the ignition, is it the standard HU or is an after market on fitted?

As for the door problem there are 5 !! micro switches in the door so one might be gone for the interior lights and one is OK for the door buzzer

Hope this helps

Hi Karl,

It's a standard radio mate, it does have a harmon kardon fm transmitter piggybacking off the ISO connector I believe. Will investigate this at the weekend. Done a bit of searching and it could be a fuse.

Didn't realise there were 5 separate switches in the door! the reason I think it's the drivers one is down to the lack of warning light from that door when the rest and the boot bring on the dash warning.

But who knows!

Looks a right pain in the ass to change too :(

It could be the transmitter passing thought power to the live with ignition feed, as you say the only way around it is to look at the wiring there.

All the switches are in one unit about £70 iirc and as you say is a bugger to replace. Got problems with mine but waiting until better weather !!

Hope you get the radio sorted

Karl

The standard symphony headunit can be set to turn off when you remove the key. If you hold down TP when on you will get an array of settings you can scroll through. One is called 'key' I think. More details in the symphony manual! You can turn on things like auto-volume change with speed etc there too!

Oli, you legend!

Key set to on now (it was off!) and job done! It's definitely drivers door switch, but also further investigation showed I had in fact had the interior light on the wrong setting :D

But the door micro switch is still intermittently faulty. The interior light doesn't always come on with open door, the car sometimes locks itself after 30s even when drivers door has been opened.

Something to look at on drier times when I feel up to drilling out massive rivets lol
