Looks better stuck on so doesn't have the screws or caps to cover the screw head.

Both my number plates are stuck on.

As standard mine was screwed on (there are pre made holes to use)

Screwed on but now pressed steel in a plate holder

When I put my private plate on mine I discovered the screws that held

the original plates on had rusted and upon trying to unscrew them they

broke off in the holes. So I had to stick mine on as attempts to drill them out

were unsuccessful.

Why oh why don't they use stainless steel screws?

The VAG group don't have that much money to spare! Stainless steel screws? Don't be outrageous! :p

Tell me about it! The screws that hold the numberplate lamps in on my Audi seem

to be made of chocolate. I have replaced them with better ones to hold in my new LED

clusters. You'd think that any external screws that need undoing from time to time

would be stainless really.

thanks all!

even if they had used stainless screws electrolysis would cause them to seize up still. plastic m5 bolts (like used on motorcycle no.plates) should have been used as they are easy to remove if broken.

Would depend on how supplying dealer fits them.

I'd stick them on. Looks much better.

As "standard" the car doesn't have numberplates. :giggle: They're a "dealer fit extra".

When I bought my 2004vRS new I asked for stick-on plates but the dealer explained that although the back one could be stuck on, they'd had problems with front ones since the mounting plinth is curved and they'd only now screw them on.

When I bought my 2007vRS secondhand from another dealer the new plates were similarly mounted,
