Where's my indicator flasher located?

Featured Replies

Hi.

My indicator flasher is acting up and I need to have a look at it. By the sound of it, it seems to be behind the radio, but I don't want to have to start ripping anything out without being positive about its location.

I think it is part and parcel of the hazard warning light switch on the dashboard.

Thanks, it sounds like it's in the vicinity of the hazard switch. I'll check out the dealer price to see if it's worth going for the one on Ebay.

It is the hazzard swtich.

Pretty easy to remove, carefully prize out the surround for it. Lever the switch forward and pull out gently. Disconnect the plug on the back and refit is reversal of removal

i don't suppose theres a silent one available is there?probably the most thing i dislike about my octy, but at least ,i know the indicators on i suppose

This apparently is a very common problem. The indicator relay is contained in the same unit as the hazard lights switch. You pop out the OCTAVIA plastic trim and pull out the hazard light switch.

I know two Octavia owners that had theirs replaced at their own expense. Mine started going flakey, and as I did not have anything to lose, I opened up the relay, cleaned all the contacts, and it works like BRAND NEW again. I have not had a single "double-click" or "sticky-click" since I did this.

My buddy at work, he had his relay replaced late last year and its starting to act up again! Mine is still working!

Check my description of how to clean the relay contacts...

This link doesn't seem to work anymore. Has anyone got an updated one or can describe to me how I can get to the part and clean it?

That link is dead and can't be resurrected. Why not fit a new uprated flasher unit as below?

Oooops, I thought I had strayed on to the BMW forum:o

The flasher relay is part of the hazard warning switch. I replaced mine not long ago after the indicators went on strike. It was not expensive and took 5 mins to fit.
