2.0 170 diesel ?

Featured Replies

right ive kind of made the regret of the centry selling my fabia VRS! private plate S80VRS tints pd 160 instake green panel filter and a custom remap from jabba etc etc etc!

now i have been looking for something abit more powerful but as standerd! ive been looking at the 2.0 140 150s and the 2.0 170!?

and ive read up on this sort of thing before but i hear there are problems with these engine models, filters, injectors etc which i still dont understand!

has the problem been fixed at all? are there actually any that run properly?

i keep hearing the problem have been fixed but what year was this? im planning on getting a seat or golf with the 170 engine inside.

would anyone be able to tell me, and give any advice/facts on when this problem was corrected!? what year etc. ive heared the engine have code numbers does anyone know the safe one!?

sorry for the long winded post and im sure many people have asked this question before!? but for my own piece of mind i just thought id raise it up again and make sure the responces are from this year!

thanks again guys for the time for reading or replying for those that did! cheers! :D

No idea, mine is fine.

Give it a remap and it'll kick out 200-210bhp and a nice slug of torque.

Will feel like being back in the vRS again! :)

There are two 170bhp diesels. The older PD170 unit and the newer CR170 engine. Basically when my mate was looking for a Octavia vrs 3 separate (very good) VAG Techies said to steer clear of the PD unit, the CR is much better. That was enough for me. Heard very few issues with the newer engine, his is lovely to drive. I know some PD170 owners will stick up for their motor, no doubt some have been trouble free but out of the two I know which I`d rather.

Ah, mine is the CR. Really like it.

right just to choose car, really like seat to be honnest. but i guess im open for choice now i know its all fine if you get a later cr model 2008 + have you had yours remapped or anything?

Yes, my 170 CR is mapped to 200 or so. Which makes it very good fun.

It also (due to the model) has the Haldex4 4x4 system. A great combination.

As I said my mate has recently bought a Octavia (estate). Its lovely, I do really really like it BUT I think Seat & the Exeo could offer a little more for the money, in sport trim they look great, can be had in serious states of tune, 140, 170 etc. They are just a last generation A4, which IMO was/is as fantastic car.

yeah i think the seat is my choice, fr. ill put a few mods and extras on it my self! wont be untill later this year christmas and killed me along with a nice winter bill which hits me quaterly! ouchhh!!

Like the previous thread from Matt the PD and CR are very different engines, with the CR obviously being the more modern of the 2. I prefer the CR, it's quiter, more refined and delivers it's power in a more linear fashion to the PD. I'm told by my dealer that the CR doesn't suffer the same way the PD does with DPF issues either.

Those nice spannish roads deserve a nice smooth engine!

The CR unit has much better control of fuel injection, especially post injection for DPF regeneration. The PD unit injectors are limited as they are driven from the camshaft and have limited operation per stroke due to the shape of the lobe that pushes down on them to create the fuel injection pressure.

CR units have a common cam belt driven HP pump so the injectors have a constant supply of high pressure fuel.

Two well documented issues with the PD170, and to be fair only two worthy of a mention!

1) Injector failure. Here in the UK all PD170's are in the process of being recalled by Skoda to have them replaced free of charge.

2) Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The PD engine was never designed to work with a DPF and to be honest it doesn't work well either. Still there are several companies who will remove and remap for around £450.

Both of the above solutions, I accept, won't be much consolation for you in Spain!

If you can afford the more modern and more expensive CR engine then great, personally I love the PD and hope to keepmine for some time yet!

so when the injector do go, on the pd or cr are they more then likely to go again even withthe dpf delete etc? that is my argument i dont want to be paying out 1000 every couple of years!

Get a CR, no injector issues, not DPF issues, much newer technology. No worries about anything then
