Cars and bikes

Having stumbled across BossFox's Citygo-go project this got me thinking- (if you've not seen it yet have a look as it's well worth following)

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/243854-citigo-go-a-citigo-with-more-go/

With his go-go set to develp circa 400bhp per tonne I wondered what driving a car with that sort of performance would be like compared to riding a quick bike (though I'm unlikely to ever find out), as bikes generally have BHP per tonne figures the average car owners can only dream about, though they don't have (or need?) the torgue figues to match that of cars (unless it's a harley) )

As an example the 2012 Fireblade has 175BHP and a kerbside weight of 200kg, so that's 875 BHP per tonne, but it 'only' has 112nm of torque, where as the 'blade I used to own only had 729 BHP per tonne so was a snail in comparison, but it didn't feel like it to me.

if any of you saw toffee needle driving the KTM crossbow against their RC8 the car had it in the corners due to superior grip, but couldn't match the bike down the straight as it passed him on the back wheel!

Obviously the riding position on a bike is very different to the driving position in a car so I wondered what it's like to drive something really quick.

So if any of you are fortunate to own both here's your chance to let the rest of us (well me anyway) know what the pros/cons and differences are as a driving/riding experience between driving a hypercar and riding a sportsbike (NOT the differences as a mode of transport please!)

nah i think bikes will always be quicker, faster and more fun! thats me personally! although way more dangerous and in the likely event when having a very fast machine alot less safer in the case of an accident!

ive had many bikes, i dont feel as safe as in a car but i do feel they are quicker and more exicting.

yet again you have crap weather all the time in england and they have loads of pot holes etc they dont managed the roads as good here thats due to pipes freezing and bursting and the council not giving a damn!! the roads aint wide, plus there heck loads of speed cameras so it depends on that too really!

It's a different sensation more than anything. You're far more connected to the machine on a bike. Just moving your head can affect a bike. Plus the sense of danger. My bike 'only' had about 400bhp/T but I got more of a buzz from than than anything else I've ever driven.

Covers the straight line side of things (to a degree)

Bikes feel better because they give you more of a sensation of speed.

They will always be quicker on the straights and slower in the corners IMO.

of course they will be slower in the corners, they have 2 brakes and only 2 tyres and the stopping distance his longer because of the weight!

to be honnest the uk isnt a good country to ride bikes thats my opinion! dont get me wrong it can be done and it can be great but theres alot of floor compared to places like spain germany france etc

As Aspman said, its a totally different sensation on a bike. The way the power comes in is instant and before you know it your doing crazy speeds in no time.

Weirdly enough i've had loads of really quick bikes but nothing has had the "fun factor" of my 400cc supermoto. It only has 35bhp but down a really twisty road no sportsbike can touch it. It also wheelies and stoppies like a lunatic....all on a racetrack obviously your honour ;-)

15krpm on my 400 and the back end shimmying as you boot it

Bugger I need to get another bike...

Lots of fun from a £2k bike. Athough this guy doesn't seem to get the idea of a ZXR400 (pin it till it screams at about 13k) and has a bit of a ******s throttle problem. 2 min in he opens it up.

I debated getting a bike once but couldn't justify it with the weather being bad here so not used as much, higher risk of an accident then the hassle of storage, another test, insurance, etc

Got a nice 2001 ZX7R im selling mate, good condition and only 15,500 miles on clock. Needs tax and mot cos not been ridden in over a year so only looking for £1500.

Nooooo I love the ZXR7 proper beaut of a bike.

Luckily I don't have £1500.

Good luck selling but it won't be a sport bike if I get another one. Too easy to get in trouble.

Lol no worries, not really advertised it yet so just thought i'd offer it out.

Word of advise, dont buy a supermoto if you want to keep your license lol. Im far more likely to be doing stupid stuff on it than a sportsbike lol.

Guy in that video is riding like a bit of a nob isn't he?

Yes.

It's a difficult bike to ride on the road tbh. Very peaky, very sharp and very hard. No power below 11k rpm which means you spend your life wringing it's neck or trying not to stall. A near perfect track day bike but a bit too much of a racer for the road. VFR was the best 400 on the road but silly money.

That's being kind! The 1st 2 minutes of the vid are in a 30 limit through west hagley in worcestershire where he's riding like a complete fool and the vid finishes on the Kidderminster ring road. Anyone who's done any avanced riding will cringe watching this as this is the type of aggressive rider who has no clue how to ride properly on the road and gives the majority of bikers a bad name. There is a word to discrible him though....... Donor

He's obviously a riding god.

Sweatshirt, jeans and sh1te attitude.

Judging from that video, he's an accident waiting to happen.

As said above, gives motorcyclists a bad name.

Makes me want to insure the Gixxer again! Must sell and not use it haha...

Minus the crap skillz yo of the idiot filming...

Never driven a "hypercar" but have been in resonably fast cars and owned a 270bhp scooby in the past and while the fastish cars ive been in were fun they were never exciting. A truly fast hypercar may well be but it would always feel stable , safe and secure IMO plus can you really use a hypercar on our roads?

Bikes will always be more fun than any car IMO. Doesnt matter if you are ultimately slower round a bend than a fast car as the fun comes from leaning over so the sensation of speed is far greater when you head is that close to the road.

Its the amount you move around on a bike that a car cant match and the sense of involvement you have in the journey as you feel all the elements acting on your body. Its also alot easier to extract more potential from a bike as you have far greater visibility than when in a car. You can see over cars in front and can safely pass slower cars with ease in the smallest of gaps meaning you tend not to get held up too often by sunday drivers.

There is one big nagging issue however and it is the one that stops me riding on the road anymore.....Safety. Granted all my "offs" were my fault. Well apart from 2 of them. The reason is because when out with mates on your bike the temptation is always there to race and we inevitably did this and then inevitably my talent would run out. Bikes are so fast, even crappy 650cc single cyliner trailies, that this temptation is always hanging over you and i couldnt resist. For this reason i cant be trusted to ever own a road bike again.

Another safety issue is being hit by another motorist. Even the best rider in the world can be wiped out by some numpty in a family hatchback and i dont like the idea of my life being in someone elses hands. Same could happen ina car but its no where near as likjely to injure you.

Take safety out of it and i would ride a bike everywhere and in all conditions. They are simply far far more exciting than any car can ever be. You will never appreciate this unless you have riden one.

Ultimate lap times arent really what makes them exciting. Its the level of involvement you experience, in a veyron at 268mph there isnt really that much involvement i would wager.

+1 I've had more of a laugh on a beat up old 125 than I've had in any car.

Me and mate got set free on a couple when we were learning, both big bikes were U.S. We were racing each other up and down the local dual carriageway. The bikes couldn't actually break the speed limit but it was still entertaining to hoon round on them.

Sports bikes are insanely fast, all of them. I got a shot of a mates CBR600. Gave it some, looked down and noticed I was doing 130. Effortless. Crap knows what what modern liter bikes are like.

I love bikes and still ride them,

(even a moped or scooter can be exciting IMO)

but i know i take my life in my hands every time, even on a push bikes.

Lots of dodgy and semi blind drivers out there.

Is that your leg on the radiator George?

I think it was just put there just for the sake of a picture been taken.

My leg but an old one, and it is normally worn with trousers minus stickers.

george

As you attached it to a previous post I assumed you lost it during a motorbike accident?
