Part of the Common Sense should include thinking about 'Car Valeting' ,

& who the owners leave the car keys with for an hour or so.

*Tip there to the Grampian Police.*

Another good reason for me to not clean my car. Dont need much of an excuse but i'll use it none the less. Cheers.

It makes me glad to drive a Roomster :giggle: 'cos they would have to have their guide dog drive it away.

Which is why I have ATA confirm enabled ;)

Sorry Gadgetman I'm in blonde mode.... What's ATA? Cheers

I know on vag group cars pressing the buttons on two keys for diffrent cars cancels each other out so all it takes is one wee scrote sitting with his finger on the unlock key and many people will press the lock button while walking away from the car and nothing will happen.....the scrote now has access to the car

Not too sure if this has been fixed on brand new vag cars but it works on upto 11plates atleast

That won't necessarily allow them to nick you car as they've still got to get past the steering lock and immobiliser on key based systems.

There is no point in hiding the information it's out there anyway. At least if we know too each of us can take measure to protect yourself.

+1 on this. The crims are already aware of the 'how to' on this method and they're probably doing something else we don't know about yet as well. My post was as Aspman has rightly called it info so collectively we don't become a victim, though as others have said they tend to target the premium cars if they're 'proper' crims as that's where the profit is but I'm not leaving it to chance.

No doubt there will also be a spate of peole getting their cars nicked because they've left them on the drive with the engine running to de-ice the windscreen.

cheers

Me and a mate have locked out cars in unison (make them bleep together, sad I know) all the time. Both lock as they should.

Whereas a friend unlocked his Golf (4) while I had my Polo running as I dropped him off at his car. My car beeped, and the RCL stopped working with my key, but the key for his Golf could control both. It was odd! Had to VAGCOM the key back to the Polo.

unbelieveable, scum! Surely the police can get a hold of the IP addresses from FaceBook, or their mobile phone numbers or something?

You could do it if you wanted.

At some point if it goes to a stolen phone you can get a location of that device to a reasonable area.

Put a few bits together such as access from a school etc and you'd have them.

I get the can't be bothered idea.

You do have to wonder when the police ignore crime and go after people for being p*ssed off if they're in the pay of the former.

They are on the ball, (pun) with door knocking Soccer Casuals and the like,

& those posting on Face Book & Twitter with Football related stuff.

Communications already have laws available when its about football and sectarianism & a big team of investigators employed.

That needs broadened out to Neds & law breakers in general

Obviously it is much harder to trace those already 'in care' and with Grampian Social Services or other Authorities Accommodation.

Anti Theft Alarm confirm, the cool little beep when you lock the car :)

Cheers these TLI's drive me nuts.... as does the ALA that's bl**dy loud, but guess in this case it's no bad thing :giggle:

They only seem to stealing "premium" or "prestrige" motors in Aberdeen so i think im safe at the moment. There is a recession though so even a skoda could become a viable target soon.

In the pistonheads forum they say that a white 09 plate octy was taken from portlethen. Not trying to scare monger but just to let you know.

Always turn around to check the light blink of the alarm (indicators) or red LED when locking car.......and always turn the steering wheel to lock it on the steering lock.............best two things to do to "make sure"...............

Last years method.

I caught the end of an item on Radio 4 this morning and it was about the theft of BMW's.

They had asked i think 450 Police Forces about Cloned Keys & the vehicles known to be stolen with them.

Pretty obviously the Radio 4 people got pretty much differing answers as i heard it.

They spoke about how the EU forced through that, not Only Dealerships should have the Readers & equipment necessary for maintenance available to them and it was an open market.

Basically anyone can buy what is needed, no checks can be carried out as to for what purpose.

The Radio 4 researchers tried to buy the relevant equipment from 5 Outlets and could have bought it from £300 to £7500.

BMW are providing 'Free Upgrades' to the vehicles that are at risk of theft through their stupid security system that is so easily bypassed.

'They' did not want to talk about any of the vehicles that are effected., so as not to put them more at risk.

*AS i understand it, the ECU Upgrades have already been breached, so i take it BMW have lots more to do to sort things out.*
