Police were a great help then...shock

So I'm to assume there's a plastic key hidden in my car somewhere?

What muppet thought that was a good idea?

If I knew where it was then I'd remove it myself.

I'll be ringing Audi tomorrow to see if they can enlighten me.

Sorry for my stupidity,

Can someone point me towards where the story on the '3rd plastic key' is coming from,?

other than in the OP, that is.

What i read was, 'do not leave spare keys in the glove compartment or in the vehicle.'

Be interesting to see if they tell you over the phone or not, or if you need to go in with the V5 and ID. If they do say over the phone then that's pretty bad show as it could be anyone asking!

So it is a stored plastic holder for the key part you carry within the fob.?

Just the modern version of the Potato for getting into cars!

george

So it would seem, I still have a regular type key on my Audi so I've not got to

worry about this.

try this, same linky

That's the RS4 I think he was bragging about on his FB wall that was torched.

A wonderful made up story! No suprise though being the daily mail.

There's another scam the car thieves are using. It only applies to cars with the keyless entry systems but if you've also got a car with one of these or a mate who does it's worth knowing, though if I know, you lot probably found out ages ago!

It happens when the driver parks up and leaves their car. The thief has a radio jammer that prevents the driver from remotely locking the car, though they think they have so walk off leaving the car unlocked. Thief then gets in the car and accesses the diagnostic plug and simply starts the car using some sort of devise, might be a laptop or a varant on the VCDS thingysome of the technically minded have though it doesn't matter. Apparently BM's are affected as are other makes, so if you have keyless entry make sure it locks when you leave it. ;)

I like keys... if we didn't have them SWMBO would have to find something else to loose....then ask me if I've seen what she's done with what she's lost instead.

Its all over the news and in the papers up here. Fact im afraid. If they are to be believed of course.

There were several audis stolen in the space of a few days and they seemed to be specifically targetting audis mostly so i would imagine there is some truth in it.

My neighbours cars werent audis but i heard somewhere that BMW did a similar thing with the spare key in the glovebox. One of the neighbours car was a bmw x3.

Made up?? Hows that then??

Which is why I have ATA confirm enabled ;)

Is it a good idea to post these hints and tips for scrotes

on a freely viewed public forum?

I know it's unlikely these scum can read anything other than 'txt spk'

but surely the less public this knowledge is then the less likely one of these

ne'er do wells will use it?

They only seem to stealing "premium" or "prestrige" motors in Aberdeen so i think im safe at the moment. There is a recession though so even a skoda could become a viable target soon.

Jockdooshbag.

I have both the Plastic & Metal key most often used for quick access to cars by scroats who just want in.

(The junkies favourite key of choice, not taking the vehicle, just valuables.)

But with High End Vehicles the usual first Enquiries are not into the Security Measures or lack of by the manufacturers,

They visit the Dealership and see who has access to the Vehicles Paper Work, Dealership computer,

often they are interested in the staff at the parts desk.

Aberdeen is getting cars stolen from House Breaking Robberies in the main.

(Then there might also be a little bit or wee bit of recession collusion gets thrown into the mix.

ie, Insurance scammers can try it on while so much of it is going on in an area.)

Well, basically, what's reported didn't happen in the way in which it was reported. Simples.

Id rather they were using the wee platic keys hidden in the glovebox, whether its true or not as opposed to breaking into the house. They gained access to our neighbours house but the rumours on the "street" are that the house was unlocked. These are just stay at home mum rumours mind but its where im getting all my info on this at the moment. They do like a yap in our estate.

How? I have heard a few stories up here similar to this one. Remember there have been a few incidents like this up here recently. Do you have inside knowledge? i.e in the fuzz?

You may be right its just ive heard a few people on about this where i live.

In the end little scroats are still stealing cars and gloating about it online, i know this for a fact as it happend in our estate and my neighbours know the family affected. The minor details, true or exagerated matter little as the main issue is still not good.

stu_mcl,

You are not telling people whos' whole day and life is dedicated to criminality anything they do not know.

They have the internet on the smart phones they get so easily if there is any knowledge that needs updating..

The most common entry to cars became pulling the top corner of the door open, and that is a right PITA to fix.

Jockdooshbag,

'mdon' knows the likes & the methods on a professional basis i think,

i know them socially from a lifetime of meeting the likes and through experience of repairing vehicles that they like to target.

george

The biggest Crime Drop over the years with modern ignition,

will have been the theft of 'Slide Hammers'.

There is no point in hiding the information it's out there anyway. At least if YOU know too you can take measure to protect yourself.

Me and a mate have locked out cars in unison (make them bleep together, sad I know) all the time. Both lock as they should.
