put-put-put noise on cold start up

Featured Replies

Am probably being over cautious following its turbo blowing escapades but following a clean today the black car was making an odd put-put-put noise on tick over after a cold start.

It also seems to be kicking out a lot of steam and heading down the road almost instantly steamed up the rear window; although it was just above freezing which may contribute.

Ran it up the road and got the some heat into the fluids and the sound had disappeared.

Thoughts.....?

mine steams like a kettle on these cold winter mornings and i believe it is quite normal as it disappears when the temp guage starts reading a temp.

^^^ same here, clears up after a couple of miles :)

Also had coolant warning and battery warning (2weeks no drive) so I'm guessing winter is finally here....

yeah having run a Fabia for 4 years I'm aware of the steam from cold but the put-put-put noise seemed extreme and not the normal diesel clatter :D

I think I experience this when my car hasn't been run for a day or two but soon disappears. This week I've developed a rattling noise from around the alternator area on start up, it disappears after 30 seconds or so, any idea what this might be?

Try dipping the clutch, I find the dmf can thump a bit on initial cold start ups
