New wheels, new forum...

Featured Replies

Hi peeps, oh well I've finally decided t change my much beloved old Leon and opt for a newer set of wheels so have just dished our 6 and a half oan 53,000 octavia 1.8 TSI estate. Anything I should be wary of with these, on the test drive the car felt very smooth, comfortable and solid..

My Leon was a diesel and realise I will take a hit in running costs but some big bits were about to go wrong with the Leon so decided to out it, I don't drive to enthusiastically these days but like something there when I do, other times I just poodle so hope the car will not be too thirsty...

Hi and welcome aboard.

Why thank you very much sir. :hi:.

Hello and welcome. You've not said how old your TSI is- might be worth considering getting the camchain tensioner changed- a few TSI vRs's have gone pop because the tensioner slipped so probably worth checking if this also applies to the 1.8 if only to put your mind at rest...

The 1.8 owners seem very pleased with them- a nice smooth powerful engine. Regular Services and using the correct oil are a couple of the obvious things to do. Octys in general suffer from moisture inside the car so if you get that it's normal (unless the carpets are wet then check the rear door as water runs down the inside). All in all though they're good cars IMO and I'm on my 2nd now. We also have an Altea and ogf the 2 the Octy wins hands down IMO (SWMBO drives the Seat!)

Had they been available last autumn I would have had a 1.8 as my 1.4 needed a 'bit more' for me but Skoda had stopped making them by then and the Blacklines were available so I had 1 of those instead

Take no notice of any who knock it- most have never driven a Skoda! Just keep telling them the loadspace is bigger than a Mondeo

enjoy

Thanks for the heads up, how much will the tensioner cost me, any ideas... I really like my car as it feels really solid compared to my old Leon, although going back to petrol from diesel is taking a bit getting used too... My cars a 57 pre fl TSI with the bzb engine. Seems to go very well when I want it too, but drives lovely and smoothly below 2500 rpm where I do most of my 10 mile commute to and through work..colours lovely to being a kind of metallic beige/ champagne..

Welcome :D
