Bought a fabia vrs this week so many problems :(

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

Bought the car last week had a good luck round it, all looked fine had a test drive it was driving near perfect,

Some of the problems ive run into this week,

Interior light bulbs keep going out, blowing the fuses after few days (weird).

The car has started squeeking like mad from the front and back, and so many knocks on rough roads.

The brake pedal when u stomp on it hardish, feels like a grinding under your foot. works fine and good when u press normal,

The water light (red one) keeps coming on, water level is full.

Theres a few little things but these are the major ones, car has 75k

Was just wondering if anyone has had these problems, Bit dissapointed with the car but i love it still.

thanks im new to the forums aswell.

The coolant light will be to do with the sensor, a common fault of the fabia

The bulbs I`m not sure about, maybe worth sticking some new bulbs in to see if its them causing it. The squeaking/knocking could be the various bushes knackard. They are fairly common on Fabias to fail. The stomping on the pedal sounds like the ABS kicking in, which if it is is normal. The water light will be a dirty sensor in the header tank, top part needs replacing but should be cheap enough to do.

Sounds like brake troubles all round if it's squeeking front and back, does the traction control light come on when you hit the brakes hard?

Water light is a common fault, happened to mine when I first got it and the cure is either a new expansion tank.

Welcome though!

You need a new expansion tank & sensor - about £20.

Squeaking is probably the front and rear bushes of the front wishbone - £100 fitted roughly

sorry to thread hijack but trying to get rid of this myself. do the expansion tank and sensor come seperately and therefore do you need to buy both? ordered new expansion tank you see!

p.s. OP I woudn't worry too much - suspension squeeks and creaks are commonplace as is the coolant sensor warning light. great cars with only a few niggles (leaky door seals being another one).

All those problems are fairly cheap to sort out.

As some have said, squeaking will be bushes. Either replace with normal ones or go Powerflex for a tougher bush.

Grinding noise on brakes sounds like discs and pads. Again not a bad problem, if you can change them yourself. Could also be the rear pads not returning, easily sorted with a spring, search the forum for it :)

The interior light, could be crap bulb or a power/ earth problem.

And the sensor for water level :)

Wont it still be under warranty?

Knocks on rough roads is usually drop links £16 for a pair or bushes, it's £50 for Powerflex, fitting anything else is a false economy. Brake pedal is probably the ABS. If it's not an impolite question have you been driving long or driven a car with ABS before? It's just that could be perfectly normal.

Also as mentioned above the coolant sensor is a cheap/minor.

Basically if you are remotely capable with tools all of the above are easily and cheaply fixed and very minor.
