Could somebody put up the torque curve of a 2.0? I can't find it online but I would like to see it if anybody already has and can find it for me :)

:finger: Its torque at wheels that matters, which is engine torque multiplied by the gearbox/final drive ratio. Thats why I posted the graph earlier.

You should stay on the highest curve which means in most cases revving to about 4k before changing because although engine torque is way past its peak, at the wheels you still have more torque than the next gear ratio will produce. Forget 5th and 6th gear....

rev it to 4,000 in every gear and you will achieve ultimate acceleration, rev to 3,000 however and get 80% of the performance and much better economy.

changing so gear change hit 2k wasn't as good as changing so it hit 2.5k

so peak Torque quoted by skoda may not have been right

Thats what I had been saying for ages!!!

Skodakid is right, you may be producing peak engine torque lower down in the rev range, but the fact your in a higher gear will hinder progress.

I used to rev to 4,500 when I really went for it because the engine still produced meaningful power up until that point, even if it was tailing off. Changing up then meant you were close to peak power again after you changed up.

Assuming a level road....During gear change' date=' you stop accelerating, it may "feel" that your slowing but its really the other guy pulling away.....

for a bog standard vrs with old style gearbox the optimum change points are

1-2 28 mph

2-3 51 mph

3-4 81 mph

4-5 111 mph

The new gearbox has closer ratios

1-2 26 mph

2-3 47 mph

3-4 72 mph

4-5 96 mph

remapping/mods will change the torque curves and the optimum points. It will also be influenced a little by how good/fast your gear change technique is, and road conditions (mainly uphill/downhill)[/quote']

I assume that this means that you look at the speedo to change up gears rather than rev counter to achieve max performance.

4500 rpm or thereabouts according to my spreadsheet.

I tried holding 3rd gear upto 81mph on the way home last night (empty dual carriageway), it takes quite a bit of commitment as it feels slightly unnatural revving a diesel so high (4500rpm) :P

It was fine, and i'm sure it would be good for a run at the strip. Like hellfire said its not something you would do in normal driving as it feels quite harsh on the car...quick though. One thing i did notice is that the change upto 4th really does put you back in the powerband which must be an advantage over changing early. Once i put it into 4th the car wanted to launch forward very hard but i did the proper thing and cruised back down to 70 :)

One thing i would say is that i wouldnthave tried revving to 4500 without the Cupra air intake, it has made high revs much more atainable. For this reason alone (regardless of bhp increase) i think it would shave some time off the 1/4 mile run.

edit: My car is the first gearbox type btw

I didnt have any mods on mine and there was no problem revving it to the redline.

From my experience there was no point revving to the redline as the power died a death after 4000.

Then i fitted the intake and filter and now it keeps accelerating upto the redline. Makes me smile it does :D

Mine always accelerated to the redline without any problems. Yes it tails off after 4000, but it doesnt "die".

Mine definitely needed the air intake / green filter to get up to the >4k revs without it sounding like it shouldn't be there.

Don't get me wrong, it would rev to 4.5k but it sounded restricted. With the green filter that got a little better, with the Cupra intake it appeared to take away the restrictive feeling completely.

It's plenty fast enough :D
