A Fabia 1.9TDi in Dubai!

Featured Replies

Yup! I saw one nicely modded TDi yesterday, and I think it's the only TDi (a PD100 most probably, from the way it pulled) in Dubai.

I was on my way with my friend (who has a 1.4 100bhp) to Performance to put in a deposit for my soon-to-come strut brace, and you gotta take Shk. Zayed highway to get there...so I'm comin' off a side road which is about 6 lanes away from the fast lane, and what do I see on the fast lane passing me?? A nicely done up red 1.9TDi with alloys, dropped quite low and a loud exhaust...my friend was just like 'Whoa! Chase him!"...so off we go!

I drift off into the fast lane and catch up to the guy...right behind him, and I flash with a smile...I guess he saw me, because then he floored it...I hear his exhaust bellowing and I see him taking off...I floor it and am sticking to him..he drifts right and starts juggling the highway...I follow up and start winding too (it was amazing!:D)...we're doing this for about 3 kms until I decide 'that's it!', I drop to 3rd, floor it and overtake real fast at 130kmph...he must have been stunned, and off I disappear about 15 cars away from him...

I slow down...my friend's having a blast here...then I see the red guy comin' up fast on the slow lane...passes ahead of me....I drop 3rd again, floor it and chase him again...he pulls off to the fast lane, and I''m right behind him...hitting 160kmph, I'm on 5th and I'm pulling up real close real quick...he was flooring it, coz you could hear his exhaust screaming like a motherf****r! I'm now right up his a**, one flash, he flicks his hazards once in approval and he moves to the side and I zoom off again. disappearing into the distance...5th gear on my car pulls really well upto 220kmph I gotta say...

1Km away from my destination, I slow down and move in to the 5th lane...he comes up right behind me eventually, but now we're cruising at about 100kmph...I guess he was checkin' out my car (like I was doin' his when I was behind him)...we ended up both going to Media City...me still in front, within the city we hit a roundabout, with me having to go left and he makin' a U-ey, I look in my rear-view, he presses the horn and waves with a smile! :D

I have to say that was an exciting race. Thing is I've got no badges on my car so he must have been puzzled to what I've got:D

That race was one of the nicest races I've had, and the only one with a 1.9TDi, let alone a modified one:D

We gotta launch a website for Skodas in Dubai...Duskoda

A TDi in Dubai?!!?

Petrol is dirt cheap there (or was last time I went) so why bother - even the Taxi's are all 3.0 V6 Camry's!

Each to their own I guess.

Have they finished building around the Jumeirah Beach hotel yet? They'd just started constructing The Palms - i was a bit worried that it might spoil the view from the rooms looking out over the Burj Al Arab and the Gulf........

Always remember stumbling across TWO Maybach's on hot weather testing. The tyres where totally bald, and it looked as though they'd been living in them for weeks - food wrappers, rubbish, even clothing all over the inside of them.

bet this is gonna end up with like 500bhp or something

Yeah man, hence the thread. I was surprised myself! Are you sure it's the Jumeirah Beach Hotel you're talking about?? That building was built many years ago, the Burj just came up a few years ago on a man-made island. The Palm is pretty much finished they're finishing off the World and the Burj Dubai (The world's next tallest building)project is underway.

Fabia 1.9TDi...who knew?:)

Totally sure.

Stayed at the Jumeirah Beach the other year, loved the view out of ther Burj Al Arab, esp. at night.

They'd started work on The Palms, which, from my room at least was somewhere off to the left. I know it wasn't a big problem, but just catching site of it out of the corner of your eye will sipping a G & T late at night just took the edge off a teeny tiny bit.

Guess the standard of driving is still up to it's usual.........the crossroads down by Le Meridien Dubai was always fun - three lanes, with all three attempting the same U-ey into one lane........

I was reading the UAE Auto Trader the other day and there were very few 'ordinary' cars in there. A colleague is immigrating and she's thinking of buying a Hummer!

Also loads of ads for performance upgrades ads, even for Porsches and Ferrari.

There was a guy who used to post on TDICLUB.COM who had a modded tdi and he was from Dubai IIRC. He used to take it racing etc and had a custom exhaust from memory.

wonder if its the same bloke..

Then it's the same guy. I found out he has the only TDI in Dubai.

Lots of high performance cars here. You can't get thru a day without seeeing either a Carrera, Ferrari, Lambo, Hummer and so much more.

I couldn't get over the pic in a recent Top Gear of a hotel with 4, FOUR! Brand new Phantoms lined up outside all in white. Just for taking the rich people to and from the airport.
