Fabia VRS starting problem - Really need info!

Featured Replies

Right guys,

I'm completely vexed on this problem.

Basically my 55 plate VRS (BLT engine) has decided it doesn't want to start easily.

Here are the symptoms:

- All electrics work

- Engine will turn over easily

- Fuel system doesn't sound like its priming

- Pre-heat light won't easily come on

- No warning lights on dash

- When it runs it works perfectly

Now I've managed to get it to start by turning the ignition gently on and off for between 20-30 mins until eventually it gives in and the coil light comes on and then the fuel priming sound comes from the tank and it starts perfectly as if nothing was wrong!?

Once or twice the pre-heat has come on briefly but when I turn the engine over it goes straight out and won't start. When this has happened I've not heard any fuel prime.

I've tried both keys in case it was a key chip issue. The engine always turns over quickly and there's nothing wrong with the battery. The electrical system seems otherwise unaffected.

I'm hoping there will be a relay or another fuse not in the normal fuse box that I've overlooked?

Its also been cold in the mornings which may affect something?

Otherwise I'm clutching at straws here for the moment.

Could be a relay, could be on the ignition side or the fuel side. Sounds like a sticking relay, check all the engine related relays, any getting hot and fooked

That's what I'm hoping.

I don't know why I bothered but I bought a Haynes manual and the wiring diagrams in it are pointless. What a waste of time.

So I really need a wiring diagram now. Will start searching.

I thought it might be engine temp sensor telling the ecu it is warm and therefore not enabling the pre-heat, but, the temp gauge in the dash works perfectly? Does anyone know if the dash gauge is on a different sensor to the one supplying the signal to the starting circuit?

Plus, a faulty temp sensor wouldn't mean that it would stop the fuel system priming would it???

The fuel should prime every time, if theres not enough fuel pressure the injectors wont open. Owners manual should tell u what the relays are.
