So who hasn't remapped their car

Featured Replies

Mines not mapped but I've been working on a long term plan. Done the suspension, done the brakes, made enquiries this week about RARB and then going to look at mapping just as my insurance is due for renewal so I can change companies if my current one won't play.

Mine's an unmapped BLT engined vRS. Would be nice to have depending on what BHP mine is standard. Definitely something on my list to look into though, one day!

Mines standard power. I've been wanting to remap it for years but cant be bothered now. would just mean spending more money upgrading brakes and possibly the suspension as the stock stuff can barely cope anyway.

You shouldn't need to touch suspension or brakes for a stage 1 map, the only thing which may need to be done is the clutch/flywheel. I had to have mine done after it started slipping in 5th and 6th, bearing in mind it had already done over 100,000 miles as standard.

I haven't remapped mine. I am hoping to but need to sort out Coilovers and full exhaust before a remap :)

Tbh, if you have decent pads/discs then the car can cope perfectly well with a stage 1 map. If your planning on tracking it and like to drive hard then I guess you'll have already ear marked the bits you want upgrading. For the people who want a bit more poke it'll be fine on a stock car.

why on earth are people worried about there brakes and suspension ? a mapped vrs will accelerate and reach higher speeds faster but the brakes are still stopping the same car are they not ?

Well just having a remap is fine for light to light racing as its just about acceleration, but the braking capabilities are essential for safety! Imagine a ferrari 458 running 312mm.. you wouldn't be able to stop. My 312mm upgrade with racing fluid and mintex m1144 and Vredestein Ultrac Sessenta tyres mean you will stop so much faster. And as the for suspension.. its all about the control of the car of the road/track. If your upping the power and flying around corners then you need to be able to handle that with the car..

no one mentioned track use in any of there comments. in regards to the ferrari im sorry but that comment is *******s . in road use there is most likely only 150kg difference in weight between the 458 and a skoda octavia which these brakes come from and the octavia has no problems with stopping so a 458 for road use would be absolutely fine and does not actually need ceramic brakes on the road .

most of the high powered cars are built around a track so of course they need ceramic brakes and better suspension to deal with flying round corners . but i can guarantee maybe only 10% at the most , of cars on this owners club have ever seen a track .

That was my point. It depends on your use. If your just mapping it for some extra ooomph on the motorway then dont bother with anything else. If your planning on driving it spiritedly then yes, other upgrades would be needed, but I suspect you`ll know you need them before the extra power anyway.

My PD100 is mapped, best thing I ever did :)

I forgot to mention, I'm already on coilovers. That doesn't need changing for spirited driving :D It doesn't let go too easily, unless I hit a bump on the limit then for a split second it will understeer a bit

No need to get sarcy or abusive!

I just believe that if you up the power.. then you should up the ability to stop the power, and to be able to handle the power.

Interesting the comments of the BLT...I had no idea I had a faster than the average bear Fabia.

Now I'm actually wondering how much and is it really even worth a remap, given its insured as "standard" and I haven't remapped it either.

It always felt spritely (far quicker than Golf 2.0TDIs etc) and can't have been done by previous owners as thats me only!

So it could be as far as 150hp, maybe ?

...I now wonder about having a remap at all....

and raises a question for me :- what would be the best thing to do when replacing turbo on a BLT if you weren't in a rush to have a remap then (or doubltful if it would have any massive improvement).....install a Garrett PD150 or PD130 ??

Cos I was initially thinking PD150 would make more sense and not much more to buy

This could be an altogether different thread starter...BLT Engines and actual effect of remap (or not), having fitted PD150 AND without.

Are BLTs really that much quicker than the previous

I honestly don't know if mine is mapped or not.

Like I say, if it is 150bhp it works out over £17 for 1 bhp... Only reason I'd get my blt remapped is If the turbo goes and I get it replaced with a pd150 or hybrid. Once the turbos on I'm sure I'll be climbing the power tree anyway and won't stop till around £220.

Until that day if ever, I'll stay standard and tell everyone she's got 150 tesco burgers.

Its not just about peak power though is it. Its about the spread of power, which is why the Fabia is transformed so much by a remap. I can understand the though if your thinking about 150 turbo deciding between the two, but if not, a £250 (Unit 18) remap is still one of the best mods £ for £

Go to a decent dyno I bets it's not 150 :)

I have a CR 170 Octavia, nice smooth power delivery. I drove a remapped BLT not as comfy, but the power delivery is smooth and thought this would give my Octy a run for its money. In my eyes the Fabia was transformed and now a car to be treated with respect. If it keeps the fuel consumption it must be worth it.

Thing is, I'm in Newcastle and don't know any decent places for a remap without traveling for miles. I'd also want a decent, reputable, well known remap, such as shark.

If the remap place was over the road I'd have probly got it done anyway.

But is only comparative if you also drove the same, unmapped BLT - did you do that out of interest ?

I would really be interested in comparing my car to a mapped BLT, SE etc and also get the feedback from real owners that have done it on THEIR BLTs only, not other engines if there has been meant to be some difference. I'm also talking about modest maps too, stage 1 no more than 190 as I wouldn't be aiming for more than that myself.

There is a direct detail of figures from the rollers before and after but drivability is also a qualitative response rather than about quantitative numbers per se so I guess first hand experience coupled with figures is the best to compare with.

I`ll point my mate in the direction of this thread, he has a 2007 SE that he had mapped. He loved it, said the same as everyone else, changed the car totally etc etc. I`m sure they`ll be others on here though.

Cheers matt, I'd be really interested to know specifically what was involved, did he change turbo and to what, what exactly was it remapped to and by whom etc

I`v messaged him a link to this thread. He had it from new and ran 2 stage one maps on it, one not so good, one better one. I`m sure he`ll be able to compare stock to mapped. Although it was a few years back now, as he has a PD150 hybrid.

I haven't, no plans to change from standard either.

As far as I know my Mk1 Fabia vRS (BLT) wasn't mapped and I never bothered to do it. Did upgrade to 312mm brakes though as the standard ones are dire. When compared to a mapped Golf GT TDI 130 (ASZ) a mate had at the time mine felt quicker and I've convinced it would have been. Certainly stopped better and the Golf's extra weight wouldn't have helped either. Remember putting it to go once just to show a friend how well it went and they couldn't get over how well it pulled with 3 of us in it and none of us are light. The Mk2 though is much quicker again
