Estimate Worth Of Elegance Estate 1.9 TDi

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, long time no post!

I want to ask you a favour, please.

I've suffered ill-health for the best part of 12 months, and been unable to drive. My silver 2002 Elegance Estate 1.9 TDi (85000) is looking very sorry for itself.

It has the following problems:

slipping clutch

glow plug warning light on dash is flashing

water leak into boot through tailgate

damage to boot floor panels

loss of power - MAF sensor??

creaking suspension turning corner

muffled pop from under bonnet when switching off ignition

There are some bodywork dings and interior wise, the f/n/s door panel is cracked, the driver's bolster is worn out and the o/s seat release has failed.

I think I have to dispose of the vehicle. What is the best way forward, please?

Thank you in anticipation of your advice.

From the perspective of another who has suffered from long-term illness, cut your losses now and don't concern yourself until you're able to drive again. Sounds harsh but unless you have time, resources, funds, motivation & need to tackle it as an imminent need its just a slowly decaying millstone around your neck.

As regards disposing of it, I suggest you sell it as-is for spares/repair. If you have time to wait try free ads such as gumtree or preloved or for quicker results ebay or autotrader.

If your expectations are reasonable a punt on here is always a good start.

Finally I suggest you post a photo or two and give an indication as to where you are based.

Good luck with the project & if I can help at all drop me a pm.

PS worth exploring scrap value too. Try Google of yellow pages for local "collect and pay cash" outfits, but do shop around. On a recent exercise to price my wife's c5 for scrap I had quotes ranging from 90-200 quid.

May be worth trying somewhere like http://www.cartakeback.com/ if you don't want the hassle of advertising etc.

Thanks for your help, guys, and thanks Mike for offering help via PM - much appreciated.

I need to get an idea of what it's worth as it is: I'll have a look on ebay, autotrader etc...

Cartakeback offered £155.

I live in Stockport.

I guess I could make more money selling bits off it than selling it as a whole.

id personally put it up on Ebay let the bidding run and put a buy it now price up at 500 quid someone will come and take it

If you decide to break it make sure you can store it meanwhile and that you can dispose of the carcase when done.

Also, I may take some of your bits if you go down that route :)

OK. Thanks. I'm off to consider my options. If I do break it, you'll be the first to know.

OK. Long time no speak!

Whether the right decision or not, we have repaired the clutch and suspension, the water leak has been sealed (apparently it was getting in round the rear light clusters?) and the glow plug warning light is off. It's now got an MOT, as of 06/08/13.

Anyone still interested in it?

I spent £838 fixing it.

Thanks guys.
